Square Enix has released games, even recently, onto the Android Market and has been for awhile on iOS. Well now it seems they are ready to just jump right into mobile gaming full force as they have just set up a department/company under them called HippoLabs which will be dedicated to mobile gaming on Smartphones.

Our friends over at Battery Powered Games have been hard at work with a new project we thought would end up being another game. However, as it turns out, it isn’t a game at all but an entire development framework for cross-platform game development. Called BatteryTech, it is available for indies developers and bigger studios as well.
It is time to bring the joins of check-ins and badges to earn to Android games just like it is when you check-in with Foursquare or any other number of services that are similar. We all know OpenFeint have been helping the indie scene for quite some time now and The9 is a Chinese game publisher that happens to have a $100 million dollar fund set up.

Unity3D had a fairly large booth at GDC 2011 and among all the goodies they were showing off was their new set of tools dedicated to Android game development using Unity3D. GameSpy has just announced today that they will be making available all their tools and APIs for developers to use across all gaming platforms including Android. If you have played Dungeon Defenders then you may have seen the GameSpy logo at the start up of the game. Dungeon Defenders is the first Android title to use GameSpy Open.
Indie game developers can qualify for some pretty awesome programs these days thanks to other major developers offering up programs to help the indie guys out. MocoSpace is another one getting into the developer helping arena with their new million dollar developer fund for HTML5 mobile game developers.
