Over the past couple of days we have been reporting on some security issues that have arisen since around Oct. 10th. 2011 where first it affected the Gameloft Live Website and has since escalated into accounts being hacked for their MMORPG Order & Chaos. Well we have received official word about the breach from Gameloft.
We got in contact with some of Gameloft’s internal staff, not the customer care since they are already busy enough helping people with their accounts, and got an official response about the security breach yesterday. Here is what Gameloft has told us:
The Gameloft Live web version has suffered from a security issue, and about 100 users saw their accounts impacted by this problem. Among those were players of Order & Chaos Online, whose accounts have been affected. All users who have contacted us have seen their account situation restored.
As less than 1 % of Gameloft Live users access Gameloft Live through the web version, we have decided to close the web version of Gameloft Live.
We are taking this situation very seriously, and it is a priority for us to keep players’ data protected.
We were also reassured that if any players are still being impacted by what’s going on that they are to contact Customer Support at [email protected] to get help with restoring their accounts. We decided to check the official forums and read through all the threads there reporting of players being hacked. Currently it looks like some accounts are still being hacked although it appears to be a lot of the original ones being accessed again.
Still, we do suggest you change your passwords regularly, especially right now. Gameloft is still working on ironing out a fix right now for the entire issue so we will be sure to keep everyone up-to-date as things develop. Gameloft has been pretty quick in responding to support tickets from the looks of things though so if you do get nailed, you won’t have to wait too long to get things restored.
