Looks like an Xbox Live Mobile app for Android is coming complete with games

Back in the beginning of January we wrote about the fact that Microsoft looks to be developing an Xbox Live companion app for Android. This came about thanks to a job posting looking for a software engineer with Android and iOS experience for an Xbox Live mobile application.

Today there seems to be more proof that Microsoft is actually heading in that direction as a spokesperson for Microsoft stated the following:

While the Xbox Live experiences and games always work best on the Windows platform, we understand that some Xbox fans may be using other types of devices. To satisfy that need, we are working to extend a few of our Xbox experiences and titles to other platforms.

What exactly an Xbox Live Mobile application will come with remains to be seen but anyone who uses an Xbox will be more than happy to have a companion app on their Android device if it has some pretty useable features. Judging from the heading of the original article on Business Insider, one thing that will be coming to the Xbox Live Mobile app are Xbox games.

This doesn’t mean that Microsoft is giving up on it’s Window Mobile platform either but with the size of the market Android and iOS hold, and the money Microsoft already makes off Android through suing manufacturers, this really isn’t surprising at all.

One prediction for the future if this passes is Sony and Microsoft getting into a battle over market share on Android devices regarding gaming. Currently with Playstation Certified Devices and the Playstation SDK, Sony is in a better position. This will be interesting to see play out. Microsoft should end up releasing the Xbox Live Mobile app sometime later this year.
