Has the Archos GamePad 2 been outted in a new FCC filing?

The Archos GamePad has only been available in the US for a few months now, having hit store shelves back in March, but apparently the company is already working on a follow-up to their gaming themed Android tablet. At least that is what it looks like according to a new filing at the FCC.

There isn’t a whole lot of details regarding the Archos GamePad 2 in the FCC filing nor has the company officially announced anything related to a follow-up device being in the works. This likely means that we won’t see the GamePad 2 being released in the immediate future. The FCC filing has a confidentiality letter with it which basically prevents the FCC from publicly posting any of the hardware details, user manuals or anything else related to the GamePad 2 for 180 days.

The FCC filing does contain some basic details though about this apparent GamePad 2 such as the specific mentioning of tablet’s 802.11 b/g/n single-band WiFi as well as the ability to use Bluetooth with this tablet. However anything interesting is unfortunately being kept under wraps due to the confidentiality letter.

When we had our hands-on time with the original Archos GamePad we walked away thinking that the gaming-centric tablet was alright. The physical controls that the original came with were decent but not overly impressive either. This is especially true for what would be considered as the tablet’s joysticks which seemed almost too stiff to be able to use comfortably.

Hopefully Archos has made some good adjustments to the tablet’s controls and it’ll be interesting to see what the final hardware ends up being. While the FCC has to wait 6 months before releasing the information being tied up by the confidentiality letter, we could always seem Archos jumping the gun and announcing details before then.
