Virtual Reality is certainly becoming a pretty interesting sector of the video gaming industry to watch. There are plenty of companies doing the whole Virtual Reality thing with headsets of their own. This really stems from the Oculus Rift doing so well before being sold to Facebook. Archos is planning on getting into the Virtual Reality scene with a headset as well which will be available this November.
Like we briefly mentioned in our last post a few moments ago, Archos has made the GamePad 2 an official thing now which is about time since we got to play with an early prototype at CES 2013 and it was also basically outted thanks to an FCC filing back in August of this year. So what can you expect in terms of hardware for their second gen gaming tablet?
Usually we end up seeing a Gameloft title appearing on the occasional Android device when a new one hits store shelves. This also is usually a demo version most of the time. However that will be changing with the upcoming GamePad 2 from Archos as Gameloft will have two full free games pre-installed onto the upcomin gaming centric tablet.
The Archos GamePad has only been available in the US for a few months now, having hit store shelves back in March, but apparently the company is already working on a follow-up to their gaming themed Android tablet. At least that is what it looks like according to a new filing at the FCC.
One of the two gaming centric Android tablets has officially gone on sale now for $179. The Archos Gamepad is an Android tablet with a focus on gaming with physical gaming controls available on either side of the 7″ tablet which runs Android 4.1, otherwise known as Jelly Bean.
Archos was present at CES 2013 and they had a few tablets available for us to get some hands-on time with. While the one we were most interested in happen to be there, the Gamepad, Archos also had another tablet there that caught our interest, the Familypad 2.
Archos announced back near the end of August that they had been developing a gaming centric Android tablet which would inadvertently be in direct competition with Wikipad’s upcoming gaming tablet offering. The Archos GamePad has now gotten a hands-on fondling by the folks at ARMdevices.net, giving us a pretty good view of the upcoming 7″ gaming themed tablet.
Archos is looking to take a piece of the Android gaming pie, at least in terms of hardware, and in the process will end up being the direct competitor of the Wikipad gaming tablet with Archos’ newly announced GamePad tablet. This Ice Cream Sandwich powered tablet will feature a full set of gaming controls, attached to either side of the tablet.
Archos is a company that is most recently known for producing an affordable line of Android 4.0 tablets. It will continue this trend with the introduction of new line of tablets that will carry a branding Archos is calling “Elements.” The first tablet from the Elements line is called the Archos 97 carbon.
The idea of gaming themed Android devices is nothing new, especially since we have the Xperia Play along with a few other Playstation Certified devices along with GameStop tablets with their controllers. the fact is mobile gaming is a huge industry already and it is still growing. Archos sees this and is planning on developing a gaming-centric Android tablet to cater to mobile gamers.
