How Do You Get A Tanuki?

Update: The Zen Egg is not currently available!

The Tanuki is a pet you can get from the Zen Egg. These are available in two ways currently.

  • You can purchase one from the Zen Shop for 30 Chi, if it’s in stock. The Zen Egg is not in stock very often, so make sure to get one when you can if you want a stock of Zen Eggs. The shop refreshes once every hour.
  • You can get Zen Eggs as a prize from the Zen Chaneller for levelling up your Zen Tree.

When you have a Zen Egg, each one has around a 21% chance to hatch into a Tanuki, which isn’t super rare, which means you stand a much better chance of getting a Tanuki than you did getting Raccoons when Raccoons were available.

Can A Tanuki Steal Fruit?

Currently, we cannot find any positive evidence that the Tanuki can steal fruit. We are running tests with the Zen Egg to try to confirm, but aside from claims with no evidence made by players, we have not seen any evidence that the Tanuki can steal fruit. We will update this if we receive any proof, but for now, we feel it’s fair to call the stealing a rumor until confirmed with video evidence, or confirmed by a developer.

However, this feature was supposedly (according to the Grow A Garden wiki) changed shortly after the Zen Update, possibly for in-game economy reasons, so Raccoon remained a very high value pet.
