Alienware developing a gaming tablet? They are considering it as a possibility.

You know those great gaming laptops with all the nice glowy colors and generally sporting a slightly higher price than other laptops? The Alienware laptops are what I’m referring to. Well it seems that Alienware could be working on a gaming tablet as well. If they haven’t started yet, they are giving it some serious consideration.

According to IGN, at a production meeting today where Alienware were chatting about their upcoming laptops, mention of a gaming tablet came up. Interestingly enough, there wasn’t a denial about it but like a standard issue statement, there wasn’t confirmation either.

“We’re looking at all form factors and how we can provide value to gamers using all of the different factors,” Alienware’s Product Group Senior Vice President, Frank Azor said. “The answer isn’t no, but it isn’t also yes yet.”

With mobile gaming taking a huge chunk out of the portable gaming device sector in sales, especially regarding the Nintendo DS but other devices as well, and with new units like the Xperia Play coming out, Alienware making a gaming tablet wouldn’t be too surprising. Even though PC and Console gaming certainly are not being replaced by mobile, the fact is gaming is a lot more mobile then it used to be and will continue to grow. It’s a big market and Sony already has confirmed a Playstation certified Android tablet, codenamed the S1, available this summer.

Another factor to consider is that Dell owns Alienware and they already have a few tablets out including the dual-core Dell Streak 7. It would be nothing for them to put Android onto an Alienware branded gaming tablet. However, right now, it is all up in the air. It isn’t a no though!

For anything to be a gaming tablet though, the specs would have to be pretty impressive considering what is already currently available.
