Whitaker Trebella of Fixpoint Productions is not only a game designer, but he is also a musician. You may be familiar with the games Pivvot and Polymer, which were released not too long ago for Android devices. His games are unique, colorful and always on the upper tier of difficulty, when it comes to game play. His latest game Piloteer, is absolutely stunning in art style, but definitely tough, when it comes to game play… and I like it!
Without any fanfare whatsoever, you find your main character standing in front of you with the colorful backdrop of a city. You see that she is outfitted with a jetpack. You are given very brief instructions of how to pilot the jetpack. You press on both sides of the screen to make her fly. Her direction is dependent upon what side of the screen you touch. The height and velocity of your flight is determined by how long you touch both sides of the screen in unison. Trust me, it takes some getting used to.
Your first goal is to get your character to land on a nearby park bench. Well, that seems simple enough. However, she has to land on the park bench standing up. I got to the park bench several times, with my arms and legs flailing, but I couldn’t get her to land standing on her feet. When I finally achieved it, I was rewarded with the new flying status of Cadet. After that, I was then asked to name my Piloteer. Candace is the name I gave her, in case you were wondering.

I haven’t had a great deal of playing time with Piloteer, seeing as how it was just released. Yet, I have really enjoyed what I have played. I look forward to spending quite a bit of time with this game. The game is well-polished, tough and fun. It is a good thing that the music is pleasant and relaxing, because anything else would only distract you from the wholly-absorbing game play and challenges. The game also has some really nice touches. As you achieve your goals, and most certainly failures, a news ticker runs across the top of your screen letting the city know about your highlights. The replay in the game works well too.
Piloteer does not appear to be integrated with Google Game Play services. There are in-game goals and achievements though. The game keeps a numerical count of each goal completed. If you are interested in Piloteer, you can download the game for $2.99. I have been waiting for this game for a short amount of time, as it was recently released on iOS to much acclaim. In my opinion, the high-quality of this game, shows us why gamers should support premium priced titles.
