Bold graphics, compelling game play + Ninjas = Mr. Future Ninja. Coming to Android this Fall.

Mr. Future Ninja sounds like it would be an excellent movie, a great novel or even a dope music band, but it’s not. It is even better than that. Though truth be told, I wouldn’t mind experiencing it in any of the aforementioned formats. Mr. Future Ninja is a mobile game that will be coming to Android and iOS later this year. It looks as cool as it sounds… right?

Mr. Future Ninja is the brainchild of Huijaus Studios. Based in Savonlinna, Finland, the independent studio is composed of two developers, a programmer and a graphic designer. The studio is vocal about how they feel about the current trends in the game industry, and how they want to impact it, with the creation of their games. Mr. Future Ninja is their debut game and it will arrive later this fall. Sometime this month, they will be releasing their award-winning beta demo for the press, and a Kickstarter Campaign for the game will go live at the end of May. Based on what we have seen thus far, you may want to get in on this one early, to help bring it to as many gamers as possible. It looks like it should be a lot of fun to play, once it arrives.

“We want to make the games people actually talk about. We believe that all players are gamers first, and consumers second, and that consumer-based approach to audience makes the bulk of all the forgettable games. So we made a game of our own. It’s called Mr. Future Ninja. It has ninjas in it. Also robots. There’s more than one way of beating it. It really, really doesn’t undermine the player.” – Huijaus Studios

The narrative for the game has some elements of science fiction and involves ninjas. In Mr. Future Ninja, an evil science fiction corporation has abducted ninjas to perform experiments on them. Their scheme is to clone a crew of ninja, to serve as mindless servants in service called Mr. Future Ninja. Can’t you just hear the maniacal laugh of the scientists as they prepare to take over the world? Fortunately, you are the last remaining ninja. You must rescue your clan and take down the evil corporation.

Mr. Future Ninja Features:

Three ninjas use stealth to infiltrate and investigate a neo-Japanese sci-fi skyscraper. Each ninja has their unique skill. Players can distract guards by throwing shuriken at vending machines, dodge from security radars by dashing, or take out foes from behind. Mr. Future Nina mixes puzzle platformer with stealth. Think of Lost Vikings meets Metal Gear Solid in a surreal jungle of neon lights.

  • Move three ninjas in one unit, or as individuals, however you want.
  • Each ninja has a unique skill: shuriken, dash and stealth takedown.
  • Open door puzzles using levers and standing on pressure plates.
  • Dynamic joystick movement: running makes more noise than sneaking. Guardbots can hear sounds and investigate their origins.
  • Dynamic sound emission. Player can activate different sound-emitting objects.
  • 4 Different enemy types: Guardbots who react to sounds and movement, patrolling scorpion-robots who only sense movement, wall-mounted security radars that shoot laser beams on sight, and mindless bomb-spheres that explode on impact.
  • 3 Different surreal environment themes.

The direction chosen for the art and graphics is fascinating. The in-game environments range from dark and moody, to bright and blissful. Neon colors illumine the surfaces in just the right places, and the architecture of the world has some similarities to Monument Valley. Don’t worry, this isn’t even close to being a clone. The game play is altogether different, and has platforming elements as well as puzzles to solve. The story drives the game play, and we don’t expect it to be easy, based on Huijaus Studio’s thoughts on games being too easy to play these days.

Mr. Future Ninja will begin its KickStarter campaign this month. They stream everyday to Twitch, to keep everyone up to date on what they are working on in the game. If you ever wanted to get a behind the scenes type of view with game development, this may be a good time to check out their Twitch feed.

We are excited about Mr. Future Ninja and look forward to playing the demo pretty soon. Once the KickStarter campaign goes live, we will update this article, so you can check it out too. In the meantime, check out the video for the game that has already won a couple of awards, prior to being released. You can find the trailer and the link to their Twitch channel below.
