Capcom to Unleash the First Six Megaman Games Onto Android in Q1 2017

Capcom has always had a love/hate relationship for mobile games. On one hand, they love releasing mobile games on iOS, but for some reason it seems they hate to do the same for Android. It seems Capcom is finally giving Android a real chance, as the first 6 games from the Blue Bomber’s 8-bit era are coming to Android in January of 2017. This isn’t the first time Megaman has seen a mobile device.

Capcom released a (very poor) port of Megaman 2 for iOS back in 2010. It is the first time, however, Android users will be able to (legally) play the digital hero’s nostalgic breakthrough adventures. After how well done the Megaman Legacy Collection ports were, I’d really like to see that same attention to detail shown with the mobile ports.

Example from the original console game

So far, the biggest worry we have is Controller Support. Platformers, especially platformers that require explicit precision like Megaman, require natural feeling controls. Most mobile platformers usually include an intuitive touch scheme; one touch or slide-based controls. In this case, in order to keep that sense of originality, without risking morphing the games into something else we can expect standard on-screen platforming controls. Capcom has not mentioned controller support for these new Play Store additions, which is not only concerning but thought provoking as to what else they might have in mind.

What they have announced are the prices! Each title will be released as a separate application for a whopping $1.99 each. I say whopping sparingly, as the Legacy Collection clocked in $30, which made every game even out to $4.99 each. We can’t wait to re-live our childhood with these 6 great PTSD inducing legends!
