[CES2012] Recap of the nVidia Press Conference – All about Tegra 3

For those of you who were unable to tune into the live streaming of the nVidia Press Conference, there was a lot of talk about Tegra 3. While most of it was information we already knew, nVidia announced a few interesting new features.

The first big feature was the fact that Ice Cream Sandwich was now available for the Transformer Prime quad-core Android tablet. Originally slated for a January 12th release, it started rolling out yesterday after the announcement. If you already have a Transformer Prime then you should be receiving the Ice Cream Sandwich update if you haven’t already.

The second announcement was of a new quad-core 7” tablet coming from the Asus camp, priced at $249 which is a steal considering the power and hardware that is packed into a 7” tablet. There isn’t a whole lot of details just yet on the rest of the hardware, we just know it will be a 7″ Tegra 3 Quad-core tablet that will come with Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0).

nVidia also announced a new technology for the Touch Controller called Direct Touch Technology. Essentially this moderates the power used by the Touch Controller in order to keep performance high while saving battery life. The more touches the screen registers, the more power the Touch Controller uses. The lower number of touches uses less power. All of this is done without the cost of performance.

We also got to see a quick hands-on of Madfinger Games’ multiplayer update coming to Shadowgun called Shadowgun: DEADZONE. We will be going hands-on with that ourselves later today so we will have more in-depth information after that along with some game play footage. Also there is a new version of Splashtop Remote Desktop coming our way which will be a THD version for Tegra Android devices. It is pretty awesome and we got to see Skyrim played on a Transformer Prime, using a controller, through Splashtop THD.
