Final Outpost: Definitive Edition has finally landed on Android (and iOS) after launching on Steam on May 22nd. If you’ve played Exabyte Games’ original apocalyptic colony sim, you must be eager to know what this one brings.
This Definitive Edition comes five years after the original Final Outpost was released in 2020. It started as a small-scale survival builder and grew into a full-fledged colony management game.
Guard Your Outpost
You take control of one of the last remaining human settlements in a zombie-ridden world. You assign individual jobs to survivors, manage tight resources, and construct over a dozen types of buildings.
There’s also tool crafting, farming wheat and upgrading citizens’ abilities. Your goal is to hold out for as long as possible against hordes of zombies. In fact, they have a variety of types too. There are five different enemy classes with knife-wielding scrambles and automated turrets and snipers.
Weather and seasons also have an effect. You can expect droughts, harsh winters, and thunderstorms. These, in turn, can put your food production and defensive lines under stress.
What’s New in Final Outpost: Definitive Edition?
The game now includes meta-progression, so you can retain skills and unlocks when you start a new Outpost. It’s good if you lose everything to an unexpected zombie horde.
There’s also a trading system, which lets you exchange resources with NPC traders. There are over 30 customizable difficulty modes and game modifiers as well.
Next, you get the ability to manage multiple Outposts which come with unique threats and layout. And you get cloud saving to save your progress across devices.
The new systems in Final Outpost: Definitive Edition make the loop more replayable. Visual and audio upgrades are also there, with an original soundtrack and ambient effects.
Notably, Final Outpost: Definitive Edition is a premium release with no in-app purchases, which is increasingly rare in the mobile survival genre.
