You run your own post-apocalyptic town full of survivors while zombies keep showing up constantly. That’s the setting of the game.
You assign jobs, build out your little fortress, and try to keep your people alive. Meanwhile, you also watch the deer population vanish and winter roll in. The game throws in seasonal changes and weather effects.
You start off pretty scrappy, with just a knife to defend your walls. But eventually, you’ll be defending your turf with machine guns, snipers, crossbows and more weapons.

There are over 10 job roles you can give your citizens, including farming, building and crafting tools. Once your community starts growing, you’ll expand with over 12 different building types. There’s storage, housing, production centres and more.

The Definitive Edition adds more layers to the original. Exabyte Games does that through new artwork, achievements, a fresh soundtrack, and a meta-progression system tied to trading.
You also get the ability to settle entirely new Outposts. You can expand into the wild, balancing risk and reward as you grow. Also, there are different difficulty modes and modifiers in this edition.
