[GamesCom] Sony announces Playstation Mobile, play games across all devices and more

Along with the announcement of Asus and Wikipad partnering with Sony to bring Playstation Certification to their devices at Sony’s GamesCom 2012 press conference, Sony also announced Playstation Mobile, the official re-branding of the Playstation Suite and along with that, some details on how it will work.

Of course, considering the name, gamers will have access to Playstation Mobile on Playstation Certified devices, that being both Android devices and the PS Vita. However, a new detail has emerged during the announcement which means gamers can play a game on one device, save and pick it up where they left off on another device thanks to Playstation Mobile using your existing PSN ID. This isn’t just for jumping from one Android device to another but also brings in the PS Vita as well.

This also confirms something we have been mentioning often when talking about this service, and that is that some of the PS Vita games will be available to Playstation Certified devices and vise versa. This also means that you will only have to buy a game once on Playstation Mobile and it will be playable on all supported devices since it is tied to your PSN ID. Games will be available from both major and indie developers on Playstation Mobile as well.

Top this off with Gaikai now being under the Sony umbrella and it looks like Sony is making some serious moves in the mobile gaming scene. They did flash a bunch of different games in action in their intro to the segment but didn’t, unfortunately, give out details to actual games.
