Glu Games Releases Deer Hunter 2016 into the Wild

Glu Games has a long running hit series with the game Deer Hunter. The latest version of the game Deer Hunter 2016, has recently arrived in the Google Play Store. The game is all about hunting animals in the wild, and having the perfect weapon to do so. The game is free-to-play, but don’t let that keep you from checking this one out.

There are some gamers that have a passion for hunting. If you do, you will more than likely enjoy what Glu Games has put together with Deer Hunter 2016. There are quite a few weapons to choose from, and a variety of prey to hunt throughout the game. The game currently has three regions to explore. They are Alaska, Texas and Colorado. In each of the regions you have a rifle series, shotgun contracts, and AR contracts. There is also a trophy series in each region, in which you have to hunt particular animals, and it also requires a certain type of kill or skill shot. As an example, one of the five trophy hunting animals is a Grizzled Guardian Bear. Successfully completing the trophy section of the game unlocks the next region.

The game does have optional in-app purchases. The in-game currency uses gold and hunter bucks. There is also the typical energy status bar that is used in most Glu Games. Playing through the first region was not difficult. The rifle series had 30 different missions. Though you are given 10 energy bars, you gain more when you level up, by gaining XP with skill shots and completing missions. You also gain energy by playing the game at particular times. As an example, since I happened to be playing after 9PM, I was given 15 additional energy packs to use. It also lets you know the next time you can play to get additional energy which is appreciated. The wait times for recharging weren’t horrendously long, as we have seen in some games. Additional gold is given when you level up as well. However, looking at the shop, some of the weapons will take a lot of playing time to acquire the amount of gold necessary to pay for them. This brings us to the weapons store.

The weapons store has rifles, shotguns, assault rifles and strangely enough, one bow, from what I could find. There is also a pro shop for those really elite guns. Save all of your gold for these if you are interested. Each weapon can be upgraded, whether it is the scope, magazine, barrel, ammo, etc. There are plenty of options when it comes to upgrading your weapon. You can pay for your upgrade using hunter bucks or gold. Of course the upgrades get more expensive the farther you get into the game, but there aren’t huge leaps in cost. If you find you are running low on cash, you can take an AR Contract or Shotgun Contract, to gain a little more cash to build up in reserve for your next upgrade. This also allows a fair amount of variety in the game play.

Deer Hunter 2016 Features:

  • Hunt around the world. Pursue trophies in unique and beautiful locations that span the globe from Alaska to Zimbabwe
  • Bag big Game Animals. Hunt animals so real they nearly jump off the screen. Track down and bag the world’s most exotic and elusive game.
  • Shoot like a pro. Develop a steady hand, line up your sights, and master the skills to take the perfect shot.
  • Get them before they get you. Take down predators before you become the prey.
  • Build your arsenal. Collect and customize your firearms with scopes, magazines, barrels, and stocks as you perfect your weapons for each hunt.

The graphics in the game are impressive. All the weapons are rendered with plenty of detail. Of course, unless you are using a shotgun or bow, you will primarily be looking at everything from a scope’s view. You want to make sure you make your shot count. When I was attempting to hunt wolves, I was careless with a few shots, and the pack came charging. This was when I found out that the loading time on the particular firearm I was using wasn’t the fastest. You can see what happens in one of the screenshots above. That didn’t turn out to well. After that occurrence I realized that Deer Hunter 2016 is probably the safest way to hunt wolves.

Deer Hunter 2016 is free-to-play and it is integrated with Google Game Play Services. There are over twenty achievements to unlock in the game. Hopefully content will continue to be added to the game. If you download the game by September 18th, you get a free hunter’s pack. This includes extra energy, gold bars and hunter’s bucks. So far, reviews in the Play Store have been quite favorable. I have enjoyed playing it thus far, and this is not a genre that I necessarily gravitate towards. If you enjoy hunting games, Deer Hunter 2016 can easily be recommended.
