So far in the two years that Nvidia has launched the Nvidia Shield tablet we have had two iterations, the original and then the recently released Tegra K1 version. It seems a new version is passing through the FCC right now and this time it looks like it’ll be sporting the Tegra X1 chipset. This would obviously be a big improvement if this ends up being true.
Unfortunately the FCC report doesn’t have a ton of details regarding this new Shield tablet. It does mention it will have dual-band WiFi support (2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi 802.1ac). It also shows the device’s measurements, those being 8.6×4.8×0.3-inches. So it will be staying in the 8″ table range regarding size.
According to someone on the Nvidia forums, they have spotted this in the Android TV coding a few times, codenamed Hawkeye. Interestingly enough, this person also says that the device will be coming with the Tegra X1, which would make sense since releasing a third tablet without a chipset upgrade would be weird. Other noteable features rumored for this device by the same person include 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, and a screen resolution of 1920×1200. All of this should be taken with a grain of salt of course.
Unfortunately those of you who were hoping for that Shield Portable 2 to arrive, that doesn’t look to be happening any time soon. However, Nvidia is pretty good with keeping their tech up on what is the latest for mobile, and they are about due for another substantial release in the hardware department soon. Thoughts?
