NOVA Legacy, the game that rounded up all three NOVA games in a neat package, has disappeared from Google Play under unknown circumstances.
NOVA Legacy sees Gameloft rebooting the three beloved first-person-shooter games that the studio released at the end of the 2000s, and early 2010s. The initial story starts out following Kal Wardin as he defends the Colonial Administration Forces, while Yelena the A.I assists him in his battle against an alien invasion.
Missing In Action
A Reddit user, @Fat_Stacks10, noticed the absence of the game on Google Play and reported it in a Reddit post under r/AndroidGaming.
When Gameloft released NOVA Legacy in 2017, we speculate the studio removed the individual NOVA games from Google Play in order to push Legacy’s launch. With Legacy disappearing, Android gamers now have no way of revisiting the iconic NOVA franchise.
Why Has NOVA Legacy Disappeared?
With no official word from Gameloft on the game’s disappearance, we can only resort to speculation and theory as to why the studio has pulled the game from Google Play.
As we mentioned earlier, this isn’t the first time NOVA games have mysteriously disappeared. We speculate the studio removed the individual NOVA games when it released NOVA Legacy. With this theory in mind, could another sequel be in the works?
While it’s unlikely, one can dream.
What’s strange about this whole ordeal is that NOVA Legacy is still available on iOS. This, in a way, de-bunks our theory that Gameloft is developing a new NOVA game; if the studio removed the game for Android users, why wouldn’t they remove it for iOS gamers too?
A more plausible theory is that the developer has pulled the game temporarily for bug fixes, a practice that developers participate in frequently. However, we will admit that it’s incredibly strange that this has happened to a game the studio released six years ago.
With Gameloft’s absence of a statement, we must repeat that this is all speculation, and we encourage you to take it all with a pinch of salt.
