Unity3D had a fairly large booth at GDC 2011 and among all the goodies they were showing off was their new set of tools dedicated to Android game development using Unity3D. We also got the low down on Union for you developers who are interested in having your Unity-based games in the Union showcase.

In case you don’t have enough MMORPGs to play, not that there is a whole lot of them available for Android, there is another one making the journey to Android soon. World of Midgard is an MMORPG developed using the Unity3D game engine (that is becoming a common phrase these days) and features some pretty impressive content and graphics.
A lot of iOS developers are still on the fence about bringing their games to Android, mostly due to a revenue concern. Let this be yet another case and point for Android gaming and also a point for us as we have been saying for awhile now that Freemium is a great business model for your game if you can integrate it.
As you may have expected, the Xperia Play was all over the place at GDC 2011 and we had plenty of time to play lots of games on them. While most games being played are already out for Android devices, some are not, such as the Bruce Lee game. There was also a lot of news about the Xperia Play and also a lot of news missing.
There is a serious lack of any sort of TCG games for Android but it looks like we will be getting a pretty slick looking one very soon. For those of you who are not familiar with what a TCG is, it stands for Trading Card Games such as Magic the Gathering or Yu-Gi-Oh. Shadow Era is a TCG heading to Android and was developed using Unity3D.
A little double header of Angry Birds news coming at you today thanks to Rovio keeping their Twitter account flowing with news. First on the pipeline is that the Angry Birds Rio version, based of the animated movie that is coming out, will be released for all to enjoy on March 22, 2011. This will be a separate download off the Android Market.
nVidia has been hitting the mobile multi-core scene pretty hard lately with Tegra 2 coming out in a fair amount of devices already and the announcement of the Tegra 3 quad-core chip at Mobile World Congress this year. After showing off a working unit at MWC 2011, we were hoping there would be one at GDC 2011 and there was!
[GDC 2011] Qualcomm’s AR Challenge first place winner: Paparazzi. We go hands-on and get a cracked camera.
While not literally cracking the camera on the phone we were using, Qualcomm’s recent AR developer challenge brought in some great games with the winner being a game called Paparazzi. In this game you are the paparazzi and your job is to make money getting the best picture you can of the character that appears.

Tucked away in a booth surrounded by upcoming PC titles was a little game playing on an Android tablet called Crimson Heart. This is your standard looking retro-styled JRPG with nice graphics, touch screen controls, monsters that look both cute and not so cute. Combat, however, looked pretty damn awesome.
Not too long ago we announced before anyone else that Spacetime Studio’s new upcoming game would be called Blackstar. This will be a space-themed MMORPG and will have a massive universe to explore. We got to sit down with our friends over at Spacetime to talk about Blackstar and of course try it out!
