[Updated] Republique is Coming This Week! Don’t Miss It!

This is a good week to be an Android gamer. There are some excellent games that should be hitting the Play Store. Sometimes gaming in the Android community means we have to wait for some titles after they have been released on iOS. That is the case with Camouflaj and Logan’s highly praised game Republique. What is so great about waiting this time? Republique’s game delivery system has been episodic. The first two episodes have already been released on iOS. The Android community will be able to pick up Episodes 1, 2 and 3, when Episode 3 is released Thursday, October 23rd. The game will be available in the Play Store and the Amazon App Store. Episode One has already been released in the Amazon App Store, but only for Kindle Fire devices. Republique has an intriguing story and an amazing heroine as the main protagonist.

Update: October 23rd, 2014 6:28am PST: Republique is now available on Google Play ($2.99) and Amazon’s Appstore ($1.99, on sale from $4.99). You can snag your copy off of your marketplace of choice through the links at this bottom of the article.

Camouflaj, based in Seattle, Washington, is  the boutique studio created by Ryan Payton. Mr. Payton was the Creative Director for Halo 4 and Producer of Metal Gear Solid 4. The team he put together to make Republique, has been a part of many console/PC titles such as Metal Gear Solid 4, F.E.A.R., Halo 4, Kinect, S.O.C.O.M., Red Dead Redemption  and Black and White 2. Logan is known for their extremely popular Skyrim TV commercial. Together, the team has created what is one of the most anticipated titles for mobile devices in quite some time.

Republique had a successful KickStarter campaign that was completed back in May of 2012. The game was originally designed for iOS. However, it was mentioned at that time, that if their campaign was successful, the game would possibly make it to other devices including PC and Mac. They surpassed their $500,000 goal, and now we will be able to enjoy what iOS gamers and game journalists have been talking about over the last year, a heroine named Hope and her compelling story.

“Republique is an intense, thrilling, and topical, stealth-action game that explores the peril of government surveillance in the Internet Age. Help Hope escape from a 1984-inspired dystopia. You receive a desperate call from Hope, a mysterious woman trapped inside an oppressive totalitarian state. By hacking into the nation’s elaborate surveillance network and taking control, you guide Hope through a web of danger and deception across five thrilling episodes.”  – Camouflaj

The game controls have been designed as “One Touch” stealth action gameplay that includes immersive puzzles and strategic choices. The cut-scenes are all motion-captured and the voice overs in the story include industry veterans as well. David Hayter (Metal Gear Solid), Jennifer Hale (Mass Effect, BioShock Infinite), Dwight Schultz (Killer 7, Star Trek), Khary Payton (Metal Gear Solid 4) and Matthew Mercer (Resident Evil 6) all have taken part, to provide the next level of realism when it comes to telling the fascinating story in Republique.

Through a partnership with Darkwind Media, the three episodes from Republique will arrive on Android. The episodes are Episode 1: Exordium, Episode 2: Metamorphosis, and Episode 3: Ones & Zeroes, which is said to be the longest episode yet. The play time for episode three for most players, is expected to be just over three hours. Based on some of the videos, we know the production quality on Repubique is exceptionally high.

All three episodes will launch on Google Play and the Amazon App Store. Episode 1 will be reduced to $2.99 during launch week. To play Episode 3, both previous episodes must be purchased, though they do not have to be played. Players can purchase a season pass for $14.99, giving them access to all five installments once they are available. This also includes added content such as video documentaries and in-game commentaries from Camouflaj.

Are you ready to enter into the shadows, and take part in helping Hope escape from the tyranny of the government? Republique has been nominated for several awards such as: Excellence in Innovation, Best in Technical Achievement, Excellence in Sound Design and Excellence in Storytelling from the IMGA Awards. Some of the other awards the game has received include, Golden Cube Award Nominee and Best Indie Game from the Golden Joysticks Awards. It looks like Thursday will be the day Android gamers will find out just how talented a studio Camouflaj is. Droid Gamers will let you know once the game is available to download in both stores. In the meantime, check out the screenshots, which are from Episode 3, and a video trailer from when the game was released on iOS.
