Square Enix is opening the CBT for Dragon Quest Smash/Grow

Square Enix has opened pre-registration for the game’s closed beta test. It will run from October 14th until October 21st. You can access the test on Android via Google Play. You have until October 2nd to sign up through the official website.

Ahead of the beta, Square Enix is also holding a giveaway campaign running from September 19th until September 26th across its official X and Facebook pages. To participate, you need to follow them on X, repost the campaign post and leave a comment.

The prizes will remind you of the series’ iconic style. They feature a Dragon Quest Metallic Monsters Gallery Erdrick Sword & Shield for one winner, a Dragon Quest Pixelight Slime for another, and two Dragon Quest Smile Slime Plush toys in medium size.

They dropped a trailer today, giving us the first glimpse of the game. Take a look!

What else do we know about the game?

Dragon Quest Smash/Grow takes a slightly different approach compared to the traditional turn-based roots of the series. Instead of slow, methodical battles, you’ll smash your way through swarms of enemies, gradually powering up.

There will be the franchise’s recognisable Coup de Grâce techniques. Each run will be different, as you’ll pick from random Blessings skills that shift character growth and strategy.

Dragon Quest was first introduced by Yuji Horii in 1986. It made its US debut in 1989 under the name Dragon Warrior. Over the years, the franchise has spanned 11 mainline titles, spin-offs, manga, novels, films, and anime.
