Reckless Racing Review – say that 10 times as fast as you can

Hold on to your seats, its gonna be a bumpy ride. reckless racing does exactly what it says in the title, and makes the ILG micro machines games look like child’s play. Reckless Racing is Polarbit’s newest 3D game, with partner Pixelbite, and takes the racing game genre and pumps it full of Hillbilly racing goodness with great graphics.

Yet another full 3d racer from polarbit and pixelbite. reckless racing puts you in a variety of vehicles and throws you in the mud. either drive aggressively or you’ll be forced to push your car round a number of tracks.

Features:

  • Local online play with global online scoreboard
  • Choose from 6 vehicles
  • Amazing 3d graphics and environments
  • 10 tracks with more coming as downloadable expansion packs
  • Multiple game styles

Gameplay: There’s a variety of controls available to choose from, so pick whichever is best for you. I personally prefer the “tank” configuration. There’s a few game modes to keep you busy for a while. Dirt rally which will throw you head first into the action against 5 AI opponents.

Hot Lap let’s you race yourself against your fastest time. I find Hot Lap useful for getting to know the tracks. Run a few laps then deliberately slow down a little and observe your ghost to see where you make mistakes.

Delivery mode is fun. It turns you into a delivery driver, you have to pick up and deliver as many packages as you can in the given time limit.

Graphics and Sound: From the offset you immediately know you’re in for a treat. the unconventional top down view is remarkably easy to adjust to if you’re used to “bonnet cam” views. Seeing all the action from an aerial perspective means you get to see the stunning surroundings a little easier. Polarbit and Pixelbite did everything they could to make this game a visual masterpiece, and it shows. Everything from the roof tiles to fallen leaves are presented in high resolution graphics that rival dedicated hand held gaming devices, even the mud splatter looks great.

All the music and sound effects in-game are original and fit the game perfectly. In fact some of the music makes the game a bit more enjoyable as it keeps with the overall tone of the game.

Controls: For the most part the controls are quick and responsive and the physics are pretty spot on as well. While newer devices will see better control performance then older/lower-end Android devices, you can pick different configurations of controls. Experimenting with them might help with your gameplay to better adjust to the device you have.

Overall: As far as racing games go, this one is close to perfect. The option for “bonnet cam” would certainly make this more appealing to hardcore racers, but the top-down view fills the hole micro machines once left. At a $2.99 price tag you couldn’t ask for more in a racing game.
