Qualcomm seems to be rather busy this morning as they have dropped a few announcements today regarding a plethora of new chipsets for the S4 and S1 line-up, a few games to showcase those chipsets and an app called GameCommand which will be used to help people find this Qualcomm optimized games.

Right now we are nearing the release of two new chipsets for Android devices, both of which are quad-core. Qualcomm S4 is slated for release sometime in 2012 while nVidia’s Kal-El (Tegra 3) Chipset will start appearing in tablets within the next couple of month while phones will start appearing in Q1 2012.
It has been awhile since we talked about this game by Southend but Desert Winds seems to be making the news again as more information has been released. Originally quickly previewed at CES 2011 and later we got to get a hands-on at GDC 2011, Desert Winds is a beautiful looking game.

Today Qualcomm has taken the leap and launched their Augmented Reality Platform for Android. Last year it was released in beta form for developers to play around with and develop apps/games for the developers challenge. Now it is available in non-beta form for developers to actually release apps and games commercially.

While not literally cracking the camera on the phone we were using, Qualcomm’s recent AR developer challenge brought in some great games with the winner being a game called Paparazzi. In this game you are the paparazzi and your job is to make money getting the best picture you can of the character that appears.
With the announcement of the Qualcomm/ARM quad-core chip at MWC 2011, it is looking like the processor battle is starting to hear up. Hot on the heels of that announcement, nVidia is apparently set to unveil the Tegra 3 chip tomorrow during MWC 2011 as well and thanks to that leaked timeline, we know so specs already.
Qualcomm has announced the release of it’s beta software for augmented reality development regarding Android games as well as applications. Regarding game development, the new AR extension for Unity 3D will help developers create games with augmented reality features much more quickly when used in conjunction with their other tools.
