Usually we would write about a little indie Android game developer who has made it big on the Android platform with their game. However this is a bit different as it actually pertains to a major developer, Rovio. Angry Birds is already a smash hit on the iPhone, ranked #1, and we knew it would be a success on Android. Well here is just how much it is a success.
Today has been a day of behind the scenes type of work and while taking a break from said work I saw Glu mobile tweet that they had released Transformers G1! Two seconds later I was tipped off by Khuram_Moose on twitter about this as well and it comes at perfect timing as I just got a fresh Droid 2 to test and review!
It is pretty unanimous when talking about indie game developers here at DroidGamers that one of our favorites happen to be OrangePixel. Generally under-rated and often overlooked, OrangePixel has been consistently producing and releasing original games for Android that are usually both fun and high quality with their own unique style.
3D has been all the rage lately when it comes to technology news. Everything from 3D movies in your home to 3D console gaming and everything in between. Lately over the last week it has even spread into the mobile world which is great considering 3D gaming on Android would be fantastic, especially when it is glasses-free mobile gaming.
A few months ago we reported on the Atmel maXTouch sensors which we heading into the world of Android inside the Samsung Galaxy S line of phones. These sensors recognize an unlimited amount of touches and have a much better responsiveness while keeping power consumption low which all combine for some great multi-touch gaming on Android.
Unity3D have long been supporters of high quality 3D gaming not just for Android but for mobile/console gaming in general. With their release of Unity3D for Android not too long ago they have been aggressive in their support for Android game development handing out free Nexus Ones for pre-order, free software to schools and more. They have been busy!
Here is a great way to start the new week off with news about Zenonia 2 and Android. Everyone who has played Gamevil’s smash hit RPG game Zenonia on their Android device have been waiting patiently for news regarding part 2 in the series. Well it seems as though Phandroid was tipped off and the official word on Zenonia 2 is: It’s coming in December!
International Mobile Gaming Awards, commonly known simply as IMGA is at it again! IMGA is currently accepting mobile applications to be tested, weighted and judge against the top games out there for mobile platforms. IMGA has been in the mobile gaming awards mix for 7 years in which they have aimed “to recognize and reward the best innovator”.
The GTC (GPU Technology Conference) also ended this week and if you could take one thing away from it then it would have to be this little bit of information. 3D glasses-free gaming on Android is possible and will hopefully be coming in the near future. While we weren’t able to attend GTC 2010 the crew over at Android and Me was and came back to report on this great news.
VDCC (Verizon Developer Community Conference) was fairly interesting on a few levels. First we found more proof that indeed Unreal Engine is heading for Android. Secondly, Asokan Thiyagajan who is the Director of Platforms & Technology Strategy for Samsung inadvertently revealed more details about the upcoming Samsung Tablets. Yes that is plural.
