Best New Android Games and Sales: Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, Donut County, The Legend of Bum-Bo, and More

It’s been a solid week for new releases, the highlight the excellent Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, which takes the baton from the Castlevania series and runs with it into another gloomy, gothic castle.

Donut County is also an essential purchase, and long overdue on Android, while The Legend of Bum-Bo is an intriguing, though flawed prequel to the marvellous The Binding of Isaac. Clusterduck, meanwhile, looks like an excellent, polished take on the “merge” format.

New Games

Golf in 60 Seconds

Golf in 60 Seconds is the latest in a long line of casual, creative twists on golf. This time around, the twist is that your attempts are timed, with the main mode giving you 60 seconds to sink as many balls as possible. A second mode gives you a bit more time every time you putt.

The Complex

FMV games are back with a vengeance, and The Complex is one of the most polished, high budget examples. It stars a number of familiar faces, including Lysa Arryn from Game of Thrones, and it sees you dealing with a biological attack on an alternate reality London. There are multiple endings, giving The Complex a degree of replayability.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is the spiritual successor to the Castlevania series, created by Konami alumnus Koji Igarashi. Unsurprisingly, it’s a metroidvania that sees you exploring a huge gothic castle killing monsters and slaying bosses, with each boss you slay giving you more powers with which to access new areas of the game.

The Legend of Bum-Bo

Ever played The Binding of Isaac? The Legend of Bum-Bo is a prequel. This fascinating, flawed roguelike card-battler tells the story of a vagrant called Bum-bo jumping into a hole to retrieve his stolen money. But there’s also a meta-story, tieing it into The Binding of Isaac in a clever way.

Donut County

At long last, having already arrived on PC, consoles, and iOS, acclaimed physics-puzzler Donut County is finally available on Android. This award-winning game sees you playing as a hole that moves around and swallows stuff, growing ever larger like an inverse Katamari.

Clusterduck

Clusterduck belongs to the tradition of gamejam projects that really worked out. Specifically, it’s a product of PikPok’s internal gamejam program in which non-coders come together to dream up new ideas. It sees you mashing weird and wonderful ducks together to produce freakish evolutionary oddities.

Sales

Titan Quest

Titan Quest might look like a God of War knock-off, but it’s not. This epic action-RPG is set in a number of different mythologies, including ancient Greek, Egyptian, and Chinese. It features a staggering number of baddies, items, and weapons, and it boasts 60 hours of gameplay.

Love You to Bits

Love You to Bits tells the tale of an adorable person searching the galaxy for the components of his robot companion, which have been sundered. This utterly charming adventure game attracted lots of awards and attention in its year of release, and you can have it for a buck.

The Last Remnant Remastered

$13 isn’t cheap by mobile gaming standards, but it’s cheap by Square Enix standards. The Last Remnant Remastered is an updated version of a game that only came out in 2008, meaning it looks pretty darn slick. It sees you travelling between a number of warring city states being a badass.
