Featured Game – Replica Island

It wasn’t easy to pick our new featured game this round as there was a few excellent titles recently released such as Zenonia, Mystique 3, Tower Raiders and Blastosis to name a few but I think for just overall great game (and a free one at that), Replica Island by Team Replica pretty much deserves being featured right now.

  • Roll, jump, fly, and stomp your way through 40 challenging levels.
  • Possess enemy robots and control their movement.
  • Discover the secret of the mysterious Source that powers the island, and meet the warring factions that are vying for its location.
  • Supports all screen sizes and resolutions.
  • Requires 5MB of flash storage space.
  • Completely open-source.
  • Free download from Android Market.

I’ve had this game on my phones since the day it was released and that’s quite the feat in itself considering the short lifespan most games have on them. I would venture to say this was the first real full platform game for Android and it was released for free. Not only that, it’s open source so you can make new levels or change enemies or make an entirely new game with it if you want. Replica Island 2 perhaps?

Very few games make the splash in the news to the degree like Replica Island has, a few of which I mentioned above. It has been reported on a huge amount of sites both Android related and just tech/gadget related sites (but we reported it first!). This game is seriously fun and reminds me of a mix of Mario with other various platform games but with our favorite Android. This game works on Android 1.5 and up as well as on every Android device (I have it on both my G1 and Nexus One) and it runs great on both of my phones.

If you are looking for a really good platform style game then you need not look any further. I would have paid for this game if they were charging for it, that’s how polished and fun this game is. This is a seriously fun and entertaining game and if you are up for it, why not develop Replica Island 2 from the source?
