In the mood for a new Android device geared around gaming? You have two choice as of today!

If you are ready to upgrade your Android phone or are considering getting onto the Android platform for the first time, you have two solid devices up for sale starting today on Verizon. As of today, you can head over to Verizon and choose either an Xperia Play or a dual-core Droid X2 as your Android device if you’re on Verizon.

Depending on what you want more, you can choose the Xperia Play which sports a sing-core Snapdragon processor and comes Playstation certified. Also, should you want actual physical game controls, the Xperia Play comes with a slide-out set of full gaming controls to help you with all your gaming needs. The Xperia Play goes up for pre-sale orders today for $199 on a 2-year contract but if you are new to Android you might want to shop around over the next couple of days on other sites like Wirefly or Amazon. Generally, when a new device is released, sites like these will offer a slightly discounted price for new accounts. These are usually around $50 less than what you would pay going through the carrier.

Of course if you are really wanting some solid gaming performance, you now have the newest Tegra 2 device to land on the shores of all that is Android. The Motorola Droid X2 is the newest member of the Tegra 2 family and comes fully stacked with some serious hardware.

Droid X2 specs:

  • nVidia Tegra 2 dual-core 1GHz processor
  • 8MP Camera (no front-facing camera)
  • Android 2.2 (Froyo, soon to have 2.3)
  • 4.3″ qHD screen running at 960×540 resolution (these are awesome screens)
  • 1080p HDMI mirroring, 720p video capture
  • 8GB internal memory, 8GB pre-installed SD Card (Expandable to 32GB)
  • Bluetooth, WiFi and 3G

This bad boy, should you be on Verizon, will also set you back the same price as the Xperia Play, $199 on a 2-year contract. So depending on what you are looking for, you have to solid choices if you are looking to go with Verizon. Should you be choosing another carrier, you have other options there as well such as the LG G2X dual-core phone on T-Mobile. Both the Xperia Play and the Droid X2 are up for pre-sale right now and ship May 26th although there are reports that you can get the Droid X2 right now at some Best Buy stores.
