LabPixies Bought By Google

Google takes another step forward in it’s quest to take gaming on the Android platform seriously by purchasing LabPixies. LabPixies was one of the first companies to start building gadgets for iGoogle and shortly after the release of the Android OS started building games and apps. Currently they have 4 puzzle games and one app available on the Android market.

Current games by LabPixies:

  • Flood-It
  • Line Up
  • TrioPro
  • Color Drip

and we’ve even written about one of the games, Line Up, already here at Droid Gamers. Here is the official post from the Google Code Blog:

One of the first developers to create gadgets for iGoogle was Labpixies. Over the years, we worked closely together on a variety of projects, including the launch of a number of global OpenSocial based gadgets. Recently, we decided that we could do more if we were part of the same team, and as such, we’re thrilled to announce the acquisition of Labpixies.

The team will be based in our ever-growing Tel Aviv office and will anchor our iGoogle efforts across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. We are looking forward to working with Labpixies to develop great web apps and leverage their knowledge and expertise to help developers and improve the ecosystem overall.

I think this is a step in the right direction in getting the word out that Android is a viable option for game developers to create games for. A company acquisition is always good news. LabPixies are no strangers to the world of gaming either as they have created a large amount of games for multiple platforms outside of Android including for the iPhone and Facebook along with their gadgets for iGoogle just to name a few.

From us here at Droid Gamers we would like to extend LabPixies a solid Congrats! on becoming part of (literally) the team over at Google.
