Niklas Smedberg of Epic Games made an interesting statement during GDC Europe 2012 citing that mobile is now the new PC in terms of gaming. This is a fact we have been saying for the past year and a half at least but that is besides the point. It is interesting in that this is coming from Epic Games and the statement goes as far as saying that right now mobile is “starting to competing with current consoles”.

Android tablet gamers who also own an OnLive account have a bit of a treat as Darksiders II from THQ has arrived onto the cloud gaming service and yes, it is playable on your Android tablet. In fact you won’t get any scaling down on the visuals either and can enjoy the eye candy just as you would on a high-end PC since it is streamed through the Cloud.
Aside from the rather colorful name this game has, Orc Genocide is an interesting blend of what the developer is describing as tower defense and conquering gameplay. It is essentially turn-based strategy, that is derived from RTS games, and comes in the form of a chess like game.
Back when Minecraft: Pocket Edition first came to Android, we ran a series of articles called Minecraft Structures, geared towards showcasing reader made buildings, and whatever else, built completely in Minecraft: Pocket Edition. We had a lot of pretty impressive stuff sent in at first but after awhile the submissions died down as everyone got more involved in Minecraft: Pocket Edition in other ways including building, surviving, crafting and modding the hell out of it.
The second Shadowrun themed game has successfully been funded on Kickstarter and will now be fully developed and released on all platforms including Android tablets and the upcoming OUYA android-based gaming console. We’ve talked about Shadowrun Online a few times in the past as the developers have updated their campaign, including prototype in-game footage.
A couple of bigger names in the gaming scene, mostly on the mobile side of things, are teaming up to bring iOS and Android gamers a new series of games based off of Robert Jordan’s best-selling fantasy series, The Wheel of Time. Jet Set Games and Red Eagle Games have teamed up and are already announcing the first title in the Wheel of Time series of games called First Banner of the Rising Sun.
Along with the announcement of Asus and Wikipad partnering with Sony to bring Playstation Certification to their devices at Sony’s GamesCom 2012 press conference, Sony also announced Playstation Mobile, the official re-branding of the Playstation Suite and along with that, some details on how it will work.
The Sony press conference is currently going on right now at GamesCom 2012 and during this press event Sony had a small portion set aside for Playstation Mobile which includes Android devices. During the small segment, they announced something pretty much no one had any idea would be happening.
Two of the more popular alien movie franchise came together in a movie as well as a video game based off of that movie. Alien vs Predator was supposed to be the epic meeting between the two, more bad ass, alien species out there in Sci-Fi land which ended up being a decent movie. Well it looks like Android will be getting a taste of the action now thanks to Angry Mob Games.
Gamescom is underway and today during Electronic Arts’ press conference, they announced that their Origin game store would be arriving on Android at some point. Interesting news considering yesterday’s story about EA looking to Windows 8 mobile as their possible central platform focus for mobile gaming.
