Sony trying to lure indie devs to Playstation Mobile with $99 official SDK offering

Up until now the SDK for developers to use when developing their games for the new Playstation Mobile platform has been in beta and basically free. Now Sony has given the SDK the green light and instead of charging an arm and a leg for the SDK, developers are only required to pay an annual fee of $99. This allows developers to publish as many games as they like to the Playstation Mobile platform, both for Android devices and the PS Vita.

We believe we’re in a golden age of game development, and the Dev Portal lowers the barriers of entry for developers to create and publish titles including games directly to the most diehard and passionate fans in the industry. – Sony

Interestingly enough Sony isn’t really worried about Android and getting indie developers or Triple-A titles for Playstation Certified devices. This deal is more geared towards attracting talent, along with their games, to the PS Vita since the selection of Triple-A titles and really good indie titles is still rather limited for the device.

For those of you interested in picking up the now official SDK for the Playstation Mobile platform, you can do so by heading over to the Playstation Mobile MDP page and grabbing yourself a copy of the SDK while the price is cheap. No word on whether or not this $99 price tag will be a permanent fixture or is just a temporary sale price.
