VDCC: Unreal Engine and Android – More Proof

VDC (Verizon Developer Community) Conference just ended and we happen to attend it looking for any little tidbits of information that we could find. While not expecting anything groundbreaking at VDCC we did however dig up some juicy information regarding a few items. One of which was right in the opening session on the first day.

Hometown GP – A 3D real world browser game

This is literally one of the crazier projects I’ve come across in a long time in gaming. Question: What do you get when you combine Flash Player, Unity3D, Google Maps? A browser based wicked looking Flash game that uses real world maps/locations. Throw an Android phone into the mix and now you have portable F1 3D racing in any real city.

Castle Warriors – A Slick Looking RTS Game

There isn’t a whole lot in the way of RTS games for Android right now and even out of the ones available, even fewer are actually good. Off the top of my head I can only think of 3 good ones. Looks like I might be adding a forth one to that list thanks to GameResort’s slick looking RTS game called Castle Warriors which recently arrived onto the Android market.

Unreal Engine Android support all but offical

It seems that Avatar HD has been pulled from the site, both the free trial and the full version. The reason behind this is also unknown at this time.

This is a 3D OTS (Over the Shoulder) Shooter game where you are a bear armed with a variety of weapons and your job is to basically defend your little bunked against hordes of other colored bears that want to hug you to death.

Avatar HD Now Available From Gameloft

We just received a tip yesterday from Dave Loft who was the person responsible for bringing to light Gameloft’s DRM policy issues awhile back. According to Dave, you are now available to get Avatar HD for your phone from the Gameloft website and sure enough after checking out the link it is there and is available for purchase at $4.99. It looks real good too!

Gameloft Finally Offering Free Trials

Gameloft’s release of 11 HD 3D games for higher end Android phones wasn’t as smooth as they probably wanted it to be. Between the DRM Policy that had to be changed because you were not allowed to re-download games you’ve purchased, some of the games not working properly on phones at release time and none submitted to Android market, it was a rough ride.
