In the world on micro-console the MOJO from Mad Catz is currently reigning supreme, at least in terms of quality. The Ouya, however, announced that it will be invading other Android devices and consoles with its Ouya Everywhere program and thanks to a new OTA update with the MOJO, Ouya Everywhere is now available on the console.
The venerable video gaming staple, Atari has seemingly been around since the beginning for some of us. Yet to newer generations of current gaming youth, the company is seldom mentioned. The once giant stalwart of the gaming industry is talked of in the current gaming era as if it were some long forgotten, buried city or a mythical island lost to the sea.
Project Tango is a venture that Google is undertaking by designing hardware that is able to render models of its surrounding environment. Tango’s sensors take over a quarter of a million measurements every second to update the position of the phone. It then takes all the information and fuses it into a single 3d model of its environment. Why would that matter to gamers like ourselves? I’m glad you asked! Here’s why: for example it’s able to scan a room to create a 3D rendering.
While Square Enix may not be porting any more of the actual Final Fantasy games found on other platforms, at least not for the immediate future, that isn’t stopping the company for releasing spin-off games for the franchise. The newest one to be announced is Final Fantasy Artnik Dive, a classic style Final Fantasy game but one that incorporates a Free-to-Play business model and social gaming features.
Square Enix has recently been pushing their weight behind mobile gaming on both iOS and Android, more so on iOS until recently when Android started getting Final Fantasy titles and other games announced to be coming on the way. Now it looks like their The World Ends With You RPG is getting a sequel and clues are pointing to a mobile connection as well.
Gameloft is optimizing nine of their games for Android TV. This should come as no surprise really as Gameloft tries to usually be one of the first game development companies to announce support for new Android platforms, regardless of what those platforms actually are.
Disney Interactive’s official Tumblr page revealed the logo for an upcoming Star Wars mobile game, includes Android, called Star Wars Commander. Not much information was given on the game other than that it is a strategy game consisting of elements from the Star Wars universe; as in characters, locations, and technology. The game is being released in limited early access on Android along with iOS in “select international markets” but will release worldwide sometime this summer.
Sc0tt Games, who created The Ingenious Machine, Rocket Drop, and Tri-Strip, is about to release a brand new game called Chaos Ride. Set in the future, this racing game isn’t like most others as “[b]raking, drifting, and cornering are all irrelevant”. So in lieu of those things, racers will shift their weight (via careful positioning) and attempt to maximize the track to their advantage through things like the downhill gradients of the tubular track accelerating the speed of their hover bikes.
Yesterday Google announced and previewed a new product called Android TV. Android TV is coming soon, both in set top box form, as well natively integrated in television sets. Among its other features like search and voice input, it is also capable of playing games. Google mentioned that this isn’t a new platform, so much as they’re now going to give televisions the same level of attention as phones and tablets, and there should now be a single SDK for all form factors, including TVs. This should allow developers to create games that play on Android TV with relative ease.
