So a little OUYA news for you today, since we haven’t had much in awhile. Actually we get OUYA news all the time, mostly related to games coming to it and we will be doing a weekly round-up every week soon to talk about them. However, today’s news is more about the system itself and the company building the Android-based console gaming system has confirmed that it will be coming with Jelly Bean when it arrives next year.
Zen Studios has gotten really into the Halloween spirit this year by releasing a trio of new tables for Zen Pinball THD, with all three tables themed after something rather suitable for tonight’s upcoming shenanigans. Available for purchase and download through Zen Pinball THD are tables themed after Blade, Ghost Rider and a more generic but equally spooky table called Paranormal.
Time for some more Star Wars news but this time it is about the upcoming Rovio Angry Birds/Star Wars crossover, appropriately named Angry Birds Star Wars. Rovio is continuing their onslaught of teaser videos and trailers and today we get a new gameplay trailer that features R2-D2 and C-3PO birds. The last video, in case you missed it, featured Luke and Leia.
Cops hot on your tail. Spike strips deployed. Roadblocks erected. Traffic whizzing by. Nitro boost. All these would sound familiar to anyone that’s played a variant of the Need for Speed racing franchise before. The studio behind Need for Speed: Most Wanted for mobile devices – Firemonkeys – has built the game by keeping the core essence of its console and PC predecessors, but fine-tuned things so that it suits the mobile market.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past 24 hours then you’ve probably already heard the news of Disney which bought LucasFilm for a silly amount of money before announcing that there would be a Star Wars Episode VII movie heading our way soon in 2015, with additional movies every two years or so until they really beat the franchise to death, more than it has been already. While the internet focuses on this fact, whether good or bad, Disney has also hinted at mobile games coming from their newly acquired franchise.
We’ve reported on Exor Studios and their Zombie Driver game which was headed for Android for quite some time now. In fact the last time we reported on it, back in September 2012, Zombie Driver THD was slated for release on Tegra devices on October 17th, 2012. Well a couple of weeks late, but perfect for Halloween, Zombie Driver THD has finally arrived onto Google Play for Tegra-based devices.
Rovio’s Angry Birds spin-off game, Bad Piggies, has received an update that add fifteen new levels to the game. However, it isn’t just a few levels that come with the update, although the new levels are pretty interesting as you’ll be building your contraptions and getting those pigs from point A to point B under a moonlit sky.
We already have one title from Gamelion we are waiting for, called League of Heroes, they have announced another game we can look forward to called Rage of the Gladiator. As you may be guessing, you’ll be playing the role of a Gladiator named Gracius, who happens to be battling it out for his life in arena combat. Instead of battling it out with other gladiators though, you happen to be fighting it out with rather large ‘epic bosses’ and creatures.
Death Dome, by Glu Mobile, is not really anything surprising. We’ve seen this same cycle play out before in all sorts of genres. One or two titles come out and create a demand for a certain style and we get to witness a parade of clones, games that attempt to not only copy the original success of those earlier titles but that often add nothing to the genre. Many gamers buy these copycat titles and relish in what is essentially more of the same thing, feeding the parade. It’s not that I mind players or developers who enjoy copycats and repeated mechanics. As long as everyone is having fun then all is good. The problem comes in when we have a harder time finding original content thanks to games like Death Dome taking up space on virtual shelf of the Play store.
The mobile version of the rather popular MMORPG Maple Story has gotten an update which is somewhat rather appropriate considering that Halloween is tomorrow. Nexon’s Maple Story Live has gotten a rather large content update thanks to the inclusion of a new playable character, the Demon Slayer. Because of this new character the people can play, there is a slew of new content surrounding this new character as well.
