To say I was a little nostalgic when booting up to play the new Galaga Wars is putting it lightly. There I was, barely 5 years old, when my father bought my first gaming console: Atari. Yes, even at 5 I knew I was part nerd and enjoyed gaming. I remember playing Galaga with my parents, so when I downloaded the new mobile game from Google Play, I was happy.
I had the unique pleasure of checking out The Revenge of Johnny Bonasera game which is based on a kid who is bullied and picked on by some larger, unscrupulous neighborhood punks. These punks abuse both Johnny and his sandwich which causes Johnny to take the law into his own hands to serve a bit of justice. There is actually a map of the neighborhood in which the main character, Johnny travels.
Borderlands is a well established gaming franchise, focusing on first person shooting with some RPG elements. It uses the cell shading that it’s well known for, along with quirky humor. When it was announced several months ago that it was being ported over to Android, on Nvidia hardware to be specific, I was thrilled, having enjoyed both the original as well as the sequel. This game is easily as good as the others, though my experience playing it wasn’t.
Grim Fandango is a point-and-click adventure game that was originally developed and released by Lucas Arts for Windows, back in ’98. It was a game that has always intrigued me from afar, with it’s apparent flair that draws inspiration from the Day of the Dead, but I never actually got around to it. With its release on to Android, I was looking forward to sinking my teeth into it.
Finding a match-3 puzzle game on any platform, be it Android or something else, certainly isn’t hard to do. Finding a good one, however, is a lot more difficult. YOLORush is one that falls into the category of decent time killers and combines match-3 puzzling with a one-on-one combat game.
Tormentum is a point-and-click adventure that recently got released onto Android. I think that the game’s selling point is the is the setting and atmosphere, as well as the puzzles and choices as it really delivers on dark and creepy. There’s other areas where it comes up short though, but those issues are nothing that destroy the experience, nor are they anything that can’t be fixed.
Last weekend my youngest daughter mentioned she wanted to play Roblox more than a few times and as she usually talks almost nothing but Minecraft, I decided to find out why the sudden change. Roblox is an adventure game by Roblox Corporation and was originally released in 2006 and then on July 16, 2014 for the Google Play store.
I cruise through the sky in my jet. The rolling plains below me are nothing more than a green blur. I look to my left and see Carrie Potts, my trusty mercenary, flying beside me in her bright pink biplane. The fearful merchant who paid us for safe passage follows from afar. Suddenly the clouds break and the world shifts; It’s time for a battle. My battle anthem begins blaring through the speakers as I ready myself for my next foe – a beast of tremendous strength and a bloodlust that knows no rage. A giant… cactus?
Nexon was once a name reserved for the MMO world. With titles like MapleStory and Vindictus under their belt, nobody expected them to break into the mobile industry. Now, 11 years after their North American launch of MapleStory, they have close to 10 games on Android and iOS, their most recent title being Medal Masters.
