[Update: Full Release] 3D MMORPG Izanagi Online launching next month but closed beta signs-up are live now

Izanagi Online is an upcoming MMORPG that is being made specifically for mobile devices. Developed using Unreal Engine, this particular game is themed around Samurais, Ninjas, and of course, killing monsters and completing quests. Actually if you have played any of the Asian MMORPGs available for PC, then you have a pretty good idea of what to expect to a certain degree with Izanagi Online. Even the visual style is similar.

Update: April 1st, 2015 13:04pm PST: Izanagi Online has been fully released in English onto Google Play, effectively ending the closed beta. Downloading this game is free and can be done through the link at the bottom. If you watched out hands-on with the closed beta, you know this game looks pretty good and plays pretty well.

Developed by Asobimo, who had actually released some pretty high-end MMORPGs onto Android already such as Avabel Online and Iruna Online, this will be their third release in English globally. The company has had other English releases in the past but they have either not made it to a global launch, are still under development, or generally have gone poof for some reason. Examples of this would be Frontier Gunner and Celes Arca. However Izanagi Online is confirmed for a Western release.

Izanagi Online has been available for Android in Japan since December 2013, so it is by no means a new game, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Hopefully this means everything gameplay-wise is hashed out and polished. It will, however, be a new game for us here in the West. We can figure out a bit about this game from translating the Japanese Play store listing, since the official teaser site for the English release doesn’t have a whole lot of information available about the game.

Essentially, from what we can tell, there will be four classes available: Assassin, Cleric, Mage, Warrior. Regardless of what class you pick, it seems the overall theme for Izanagi Online is Ninjitsu, Ninjas and Samurai along with monsters to kill, quests to complete. From the sounds of the description, how your character is developed is pretty open, so customizing your character’s style of fighting is based on how you pick their skills and upgrade them as they level up. So there could very well be no set builds but a more free-style type of character development. Battle Ninja Mages? Perhaps.

Apparently the game takes place on a Fifth continent which is inhabited bu various types of monsters and demons from Asian mythology. Apparently the population of demons and monsters has been surging and is set to overtake the population of humans in the land. So a mission is undertaken to fight the demons and monsters back and hopefully wiping them out completely.

Izanagi Online will have a closed beta testing phase beginning on March 29th, 2015. Sign-ups are live starting today for anyone interested in testing the new English release. There will be a limit of 5000 people accepted into the closed beta. If there are over 5000 applications, participants will be selected at random from all the entries. The global launch of Izanagi Online will happen in April 2015, although no specific date has been given. When it does launch, it will be available for download for free with optional IAPs.
