A 16-year old indie developer going by the studio name VG Games has released a challenging new arcade title called Gravity Flipper. VG Games is a one-man studio made up of 16-year old indie game developer Vik Goel and this being his first game, it is actually quite the little challenge.

Some background: As a life-long fan of video arcades since their beginnings I’m also a tremendous fan of pinball machines. It has only been in the last few years that video emulation of pinball has gotten close to matching the experience. In terms of commercial pinball video games there are two very different camps: On the one hand you have Pinball Arcade that places an emphasis on making reproductions of actual physical machines, on the other you have Zen Pinball that keeps the broad strokes of physical machines in mind but abuses the fact that there are no limitations to what they can do, making only original tables. While, on the whole, I will admit I’m more inclined to enjoy the best converted Pinball Arcade machines there are several Zen Pinball machines I’ve gotten some quality hours with. Rather than have my reviews for these tables go over the merits of the game engines themselves, we’ll assume that the people reading the reviews are familiar with the base games already and are only really interested in a review of just the table itself.
Sega is bringing the monkeys back as well as plenty of balls to go along with them with their newly announced title Super Monkey Ball Bounce. This new game will feature AiAi and the rest of the monkey gang as they attempt to destroy the evil machinations of the evil Prof. Boscis.
It is encouraging to hear about how many games are in development for Android devices. At times, they are created for Android and then make their way to iOS. Other times it is the other way around. Every now and then we hear about games that started off on consoles or other handheld devices making their way to the Android gaming community. Such is the case with game developer Qubic Games. They have released more than ten games during their tenure for Nintendo DSi, Wii, 3DS, Wii U, PlayStation Vita and for iPhone and iPad. The game they are currently working on is AiRace Speed.
Though my focus here will be generally pointed at games that fully leverage the stand-out features of the Shield tablet, for now I’m controller-less so I decided to poke around the Tegra Zone in search of a more simply controlled game. Since Badland was the first one I ran into and, hey, it was free, I gave it a quick download and started out knowing absolutely nothing about what I was in for.
Back before it was trendy, bordering on trite, for games to feature a silhouetted foreground with a colorful background, Oscura was a side-scrolling game that featured that design. While the original didn’t garner much attention (it’s sitting at 50,000+ downloads despite being a worthwhile play that’s been around for ~3 years), a sequel has been released called Oscura 2: Second Shadow
Zen Studios has released a new table for their Zen Pinball platform which is themed around The Walking Dead franchise. Just like the original games, this new pinball table will actually have moral choices you need to make as your progress through the game. This is done by hitting certain areas in the table to make your choices. This is easier said then done of course.
Activision has released a sequel to Wipeout onto Android today. Appropriately named Wipeout 2, this new sequel features plenty of big balls for everyone to play with. Well to be honest there is more to this sequel than balls.
One of the original games, which also happened to be one of the first titles to be successful on the Ouya console, has received a new expansion today called Towerfall: Ascension. This new expansion comes with over 50 new arenas to fight your way through, murdering your friends along the way.
Crescent Moon Games is on a roll with another release this week. This time, in collaboration with Dream Builder Studios, the result is a fluid space fighting simulator where you explore the depths of space in search of what took place during the Sirius Incident. The Sirius Incident is described as the largest friendly fire engagement in history. As part of a black ops team, you will pilot your spacecraft into dangerous territory to find out the truth.
