Simply mentioning his name is likely to elicit groans from gaming enthusiasts of any platform, but hate him or love him, Michael Pacther remains an influential analyst and commentator in the video game sphere. This time, the famed analyst has revised one of his most frequently made predictions; the death of console gaming.
Almost a week ago exactly, Amazon’s rumored new 4K Fire TV went through FCC filing, letting us take an early look at the company’s next set-top box. Today Amazon has officially announced their new 4K Fire TV unit, with two different packages being available at the beginning of October. One of those packages is being called Fire TV Gaming Edition.

It is July 15th, 2015 and that really didn’t mean much up until this year, unless of course that is your birthday. However this year, and possibly future years as well, July 15th is Amazon Prime Day which is Amazon’s big sale day for Prime members. This is the first year for Prime Day and Amazon is touting more deals than Black Friday and so far that is appearing to be quite true. Not only is there a lot of deals, most of them are actually pretty good.
Gameflip is a mobile marketplace that has just launched which allows gamers to buy and sell games, whether new or used, as well as collectibles and gaming accessories. Pretty much every console has their own section for buying and selling games, ranging from Xbox One and Playstation 4 to old school GameCube titles.
What once began as an Easter egg in the once formidable Project Gotham racing franchise, has spun out into its own series of games. Yes, I am talking about the dual analog, neon colored mayhem known as Geometry Wars. The franchise has enjoyed surprising success and has gone from being exclusive to Microsoft devices to becoming a multi-platform staple.
Nyko isn’t new to making controllers for Android devices and this year at E3 2015 the company has unveiled a new controller which is compatible with Android phones, tablets, and set-top boxes called the Cygnus. Compared to Nyko’s previous controllers for Android, this one features a few differences and improvements.
When Apple finally opened up iOS enough for peripheral manufacturers to make controllers and other devices for the iPhone and iPad, SteelSeries was one of the first companies to announces and release a new controller for iOS gamers to finally get to use. Called the Stratus XL, this controller went on to get a lot of great reviews, being one of the best controllers for iOS. Not like they have a lot of them mind you. Android, on the other hand, has plenty of controllers designed specifically for Android devices including ones from SteelSeries, which we actually have used on a fairly regular basis and reported on back during CES 2013.
Amazon has made a move to bring a bit more gaming power to their Amazon Fire TV set-top box. In an announcement today, Amazon has brought GameFly’s streaming service to their set-top box in an attempt to offer owners, and future owners, more gaming possibilities with Amazon Fire TV. The service itself hasn’t fully launched onto all platforms and all regions yet, which is interesting since it is now available for Amazon’s Fire TV.
In the past couple of years Mad Catz has really pushed well into the mobile gaming market with their peripherals and even an Android-based game console called the MOJO. Since the company first dove into the mobile gaming scene, each year we get to see new peripherals to get released and CES 2015 is definitely no exception to this with two new peripherals announced for mobile gamers. There is the L.Y.N.X.9 mobile game controller and the Swarm mobile gaming headset which we will go into in a second article.
