Yesterday we talked about a new Android-based game console that had hit up Kickstarter to secure funding. Coming in as direct competition to OUYA, PlayJam’s GameStick has surpassed its goal within 24 hours, leaving an additional 28 days to go for more people to throw money at them.
While OUYA happens to be the first Android-based gaming console to really see success so far even if it is just a successful Kickstarter campaign and developer support right now, there is a new kid on the block aiming to compete with OUYA called GameStick.
Last week the OUYA developer units were sent out and the company decided to unbox one on video in order to give us all a bit of a quick rundown as to what these developer units look like and come with. Now one developer has gone to video with his full walkthrough of the developer units showing off pretty much everything.
Yesterday news came out that the OUYA developer kits were being shipped out that day and that developers could be getting their units as soon as today depending on where they live. One of the biggest surprises so far to come out of the Q&A session is the fact that the OUYA unit itself will be roughly the size of a rubic’s cube, making it a rather compact console.
Last week an Android-based gaming console called OUYA was announced, and it had its own Kickstarter page to garner funds from the public. What happened next was phenomenal by all accounts. They shattered many records on Kickstarter, among them the fastest campaign to reach $1 million and the most funds collected in 24 hours. Right now funding sits at just over $5 million with 22 days still to go.
We haven’t reported on a unique Android running product in awhile, especially when it comes to possible gaming consoles that will run our favorite operating system. The last time we were reporting on a product like this was back when the EVO 2 gaming console was under development and looking for funding.
