We don’t talk about cancellations at shows too often, mainly because it really doesn’t happen too often. When it does happen, it’s usually not for a game we are watching. However, this particular cancellation is about a game we’ve been following for awhile now. One game we were pretty eager to see in action, and hopefully get some hands-on time with, was Niantic’s upcoming Pokemon GO title.
Previously part of Google until the company restructured into Alphabet, Niantic Labs is responsible for the rather popular location-based game Ingress, and the upcoming Pokemon GO game in partnership with Nintendo and The Pokemon Company. Things seem to be going good for Niantic Labs as they have quietly opened up a new studio over in Japan.
Niantic reveals the 100+ cities partaking in the global Ingress First Saturday event on November 7th
The developers behind the location-based Ingress games as well as the upcoming Pokemon GO title have revealed the details for their global Ingress First Saturday event this Saturday, November 7th, 2015. The event is actually pretty interesting in concept because it does actually happen across 100+ different cities around the world.
Recently Google did that corporate restructuring of all their companies, creating a new top-tier company called Alphabet. When that happened, Niantic Labs actually was removed from being owned by Google, becoming their own true entity. Today the Ingress developer has announced that they have received funding to the tune of $30 million from Google, The Pokemon Company, and Nintendo. It is a pretty interesting mix.
Set to release next year, Pokémon Go is the latest mobile release for that gaming franchise. Pokémon Go is the creation of a collaborative effort between The Pokémon Company, Nintendo, and Niantic (the makers of Ingress). Within the game, players are looking to go out into the real world to catch, trade, or battle their Pokémon (much like how Ingress works).
