So you’re rocking the Flash player on your Android phone and you’ve got Adobe AIR installed as well, but what now? There isn’t a whole lot of selection just yet regarding games. Well, luckily for you, we here at DroidGamers spend way too much time sifting through the games section of the Android Market and testing out games so we can recommend (or not recommend) them to you.
With the onslaught of news coverage regarding the ugly UI wearing Windows Phone 7 devices smothering the Internet right now, there was a little surprise in there that most people might have just brushed passed. The news of Ilomilo, developed by Southend Interactive, has been locked down by AT&T exclusively through the end of the year…on Windows Phone 7.
Google’s Andy Rubin sat down with PC Mag to talk about Android in general from the current status of it to the future version of Android “3.0”, a.k.a Gingerbread. Gaming on Android came up in his answers and it look that Google hasn’t been ignoring it as Andy Rubin comes straight out and says that Android gaming has been underserved so far.
Well here’s a good sign that mobile gaming is being taken seriously and Android is included in all of it: Electrotank has just announced their new Electroserver ES5, which is built to support mutliplayer games played across Flash, Unity3D, iOS and Android. The new APIs allow for multiple user connections from multiple platforms simultaneously.
AlBrAndroid, the developer who brought Drunk Ragdoll and the Red X physics game just released a new title called Flying Orbies. With Flying Orbies comes OpenFeint which is steadily appearing in almost every game release right now. This is another physics game where you need to destroy all the Orbits of the same type, sort of a logic puzzle/physics game.
GamerShots has released a small (4kb) SDK for developer to use in order to promote their application or game to GamerShots members. You can use a free or a pay-per-install promotion package to help promote your game to members. If you charge per download, GamerShots members will receive incentive points towards their account.
As Adobe had previously announced, AIR is now available on the Android Market. AIR will allow developers to run AS3, ActionScript 3 in other words, natively on Android devices. Between this and Flash 10.1 support Flash gaming on your Android device has now been solidified. Developers can now port their flash games over and put them on the market.
Glu Mobile has just released the second Guitar Hero game for Android called Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock. The first Guitar Hero game saw some good success on the Android market so this one should be well received. One new feature coming in Warriors of Rock is that all song are full length song and high quality ones at that.
Sky Force by Infinite Dreams was one of the games I had mention to definitely try in our article about the second wave of OpenFeint games heading to the Android market the other day. Well it is now available with OpenFeint integated into it and to celebrate it is now on sale for a short time! This makes Sky Force slightly more awesome then it originally was.
It seems OpenFeint and developers using it are not the only ones who have been busy these days. Polarbit and partner Fabrication Games have been hard at work with one game being released the other week and two more today. 8ball and Zap just landed on the market today with 8ball being a new pool game while Zap is a lot like Bust-A-Move.
