Android Gaming Headlines: PUBG: New State, Crash Bandicoot: On the Run, Jetpack Joyride 2, and More

There’s not much in the way of innovation in this week’s roundup of Droid Gamers headlines. Most of the games below are ports, remakes, or sequels.

There’s nothing wrong with that, of course. We’re totally up for rediscovering First Strike in its newly revitalised form, and we can’t wait to see what 2051 will be like according to the developers of PUBG: New State (wartorn, by the looks of it).

Crash Bandicoot: On the Run, meanwhile, looks like a creditable addition to the long-running series, even if it is a free-to-play auto-runner.

First Strike: Classic Is a ‘Refreshed and Optimised’ Version of the Acclaimed Strategy Game, Coming to Mobile Next Week

First Strike is one of our favorite strategy games. Not only is it fast-paced and fun to play, but it brings home how much it would suck if somebody fired a nuke. Developer Blind Flug Studios has announced an updated version of First Strike: Final Hour. It’s called First Strike: Classic, and as well as having souped up AI and a slicker interface it will provide the springboard for more updates in the future.

PUBG: New State Smashes Past 5m Pre-registrations in a Week

It’s not necessarily surprising that PUBG: New State managed to rake in 5 million pre-registrations in a week, given its enormous worldwide popularity. What’s impressive, though, is that it achieved this feat without India or China, two of the biggest markets in the world. It’s not available for pre-registration in either of those territories for complex and depressing reasons.

Unruly Heroes, the Rayman-esque Platformer Based on the Same Book as Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, Is Up for Pre-registrations on Android

Unruly Heroes is a gorgeous platformer from the developers behind Rayman Legends, but it’s also the latest in a long line of games, books, films, and TV shows based on Journey to the West, a classic 16th century Chinese novel. It’s already out on other platforms, to middling reviews, and you can pre-register for it on Android now.

Crash Bandicoot: On the Run Finally Gets a Proper Release Date on Mobile

There has been an inordinate amount of interest in Crash Bandicoot: On the Run ever since it first emerged as a rumor early last year. It looks like the speculation and newshounding will come to an end on March the 25th, when this promising and highly anticipated auto-runner hits the digital shelves.

Smash Legends Is a 3-Minute Cross-Platform Brawler, Out Now in the UK and the Nordic Countries

The operative word is Smash, since Smash Legends clearly takes its inspiration from the Smash Bros games. The goal in this cartoony brawler is to shunt your opponents out of the arena in frantic 3-minute bouts. There are six modes in the soft-launch version, and eight playable characters to choose from.

Jetpack Joyride 2: Bullet Rush Is Out Right Now in Canada, New Zealand, and Australia

Following the long overdue launch of Fruit Ninja 2, developer Halfbrick has finally got around to release a sequel to Jetpack Joyride. The first game – originally entitled Machine Gun Jetpack – was a hugely addictive free-to-play arcade shooter in which the goal was to run as far as possible collecting coins and killing baddies. Jetpack Joyride 2 is more of the same, but bigger and. hopefully, better.
