Well that was a pretty quick closed beta for Valve’s official Steam app for Android. having only been released since last week, the beta was a limited closed one where, if you were quick enough to get the app and log-in, you were able to get into the closed beta.

Well this certainly didn’t take long. We have actually known for awhile Valve was considering (read developing) and app for Android and after the recent one we posted about the unofficial Steam app for Android from IBF Programs, Valve has released an official application now.
Location specific games are nothing new but with the advent of Resident Evil 4 coming to Android, first exclusively to residents of Korea, it got us thinking and talking about the whole thing in the Resident Evil 4 article’s comments. There are plenty of awesome games available to only specific countries even though they could easily be available to the world.
A couple of days ago we reported on Qualcomm and their upcoming GameCommand app for Snapdragon Android devices. This app is essentially a showcase application similar to nVidia’s Tegra Zone only instead of being for Tegra devices it is for Android devices packing the Snapdragon chip.
If you’ve been following the site over the past month or two you’ve probably notices the odd article here and there about DroidMote and some of the different uses for this handy set of apps in terms of playing games. Well we have another great example, this time using the new DroidMote analog stick feature to play games like Grand Theft Auto 3.
One thing a lot of you, our readers, have been asking for is an official app for the site. Actually you’ve been asking as far back as last year. Well we are pleased to announce that we have just released the beta version of our app onto the Android Market. At the same time we have also been published on Google Currents!
In our previous article last week about being able to use DroidMote to play OnLive games on your Android tablet while using your Android phone as a game controller, we mentioned that we were not sure if it would work for games that are not optimized yet with touch screen controls. Well thanks to one of our readers, we now know it does and you can see it in action after the break.

Here is an interesting story and a possible glimpse into the future of how all the Sony Playstation announcements for Android will all come together in one nice little package. Currently only available on the newer certified Android devices from Sony like the S Tablet, the PSN app has now been tweaked to run on the Xperia Play.
WildTangent seems to be taking a bit of an aggressive approach to expanding their game rental service on Android. Not only is WildTanget launching in the UK today but it is also now available for all Android devices as well here in the US and is not exclusive to T-Mobile anymore. Also it will be coming pre-installed on the Sony S and Sony P tablets.
Recently the Sixaxis Controller application for rooted Android devices was updated. In this update last week, the developers behind the app brought with it much better support for the Samsung Galaxy SII device and most likely other recent Samsung Android devices as well.
