In a few weeks time, Facebook will launch its own app store in an effort transform the social network into a premier app destination. App Center will be spread out across the desktop, Android and iOS. It will contain both free and paid apps along with links to Google Play and iTunes should an app need to be installed on devices before they can be used.
Kyocera proved today that you don’t need a somewhat powerful phone to enjoy Android’s latest OS. The company announced two lower-end Android 4.0 smartphones at CTIA called the Hydro and the Rise. Although pricing is not yet known, chances are these phones aren’t going to cost much after being subsidized by a carrier. The off-contract prices shouldn’t be too bad either.
Verizon unsurprisingly revealed the HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE today. This phone is one of the newest devices to take advantage of Verizon’s LTE network, and will be available in a few weeks time. Verizon didn’t give a specific release date or a price for the Incredible 4G LTE. We’d imagine this phone won’t be sold for under $199 on a two-year contract.
When I was little boy, my mom and dad would always take me into Radio Shack because I liked to look at the toy robots and other gizmos the store had for sale. T-Mobile isn’t giving us any potential release windows, but an internal document obtained by Tmo News gives specific launch dates for ICS on three smartphones.
A couple years ago, those of us in the United States didn’t know much about Huawei. As 2012 moves on, we’re starting to see this company in the news a lot more. Huawei is creating the next line of myTouch phones on T-Mobile, and also claims to have one of the world’s thinnest smartphones in the Huawei Ascend P1. Huawei is looking to spread its influence even further by investing around $4.5 billion to research and develop tablets and smartphones that don’t necessarily need to be touched.
Last week, HTC Sensation 4G owners on T-Mobile got the unfortunate news that their Ice Cream Sandwich update won’t be coming this month. T-Mobile won’t even give an estimated arrival time due to legal concerns. While T-Mobile takes more time to get its act together, Cincinnati Bell has gone ahead and rolled out Android 4.0 for its Sensation customers.
We have ourselves to blame for not having a HTC Android smartphone that can power through hours of gaming and regular use without begging for a recharge. Various news outlets are reporting that Bjorn Kilburn, who is the vice president of product strategy for HTC, said customers prefer thinner phones over battery life.
