As many of you may know by know, Dead Trigger 2 from Madfinger Games has had some tournaments for players to compete in with prizes ranging from in-game cash to actual physical prizes. So far they have been short tournaments but the new ITHACA Tour is much bigger than anything already held.

PlayStation Mobile, Inc. has been quite busy lately. We recently heard that Run Sackboy! Run!, will arrive sometime this month for Android and iOS devices. In the meantime, you can check out the latest offering from PlayStation Mobile, Inc. called Entwined Challenge. It is a tunnel-type runner, with a compelling story shared between two characters. It is visually mesmerizing, aurally pleasing, and has controls that are easy to operate.
EP0CH is a rail shooter released by Uppercut Games. For the uninitiated, rail shooters are where the player’s path through a game is strictly defined and players have no control over the forward progression, but instead focus exclusively on shooting and dodging with the progression the level/game occurring once the screen has been cleared of enemies, lasts only until more enemies arrive (at which point it stops to let combat commence), and functions more like a cut scene when it does occur.
Noodlecake Games is continuing the steady stream of solid game releases onto Android with their newest release today called Tower Dwellers. This is a pretty unique game that isn’t totally just a tower defense title. It actually plays out like more of a RTS game than anything but does have tower defense mechanics meshed into it.
I’m a massive classic gaming fan and nerd, and my love of all things video games goes back to the very beginning. My connection to the arcade is so deep I actually worked with my father-in-law for 6 consecutive weekends to construct an arcade cabinet from plans that I then set up with multiple emulators, but the most important of them is absolutely MAME: the Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator. To give you an idea of the extent of my love, my gaming handle going back almost a decade is MAMEiac. It’s in my blood. I love that classic arcade feel, and I understand the notion of playing a game for its own sake, or getting a high score; I don’t need a compelling story or modern trappings to find joy.
The Boxtrolls is the latest movie from Laika Films, the creators of the movies Coraline and Paranorman. It opened last week in theaters, and a game, The Boxtrolls Slide ‘N’ Sneak, was released on iOS. It is now available in the Play Store. The game is a collaboration with Laika Films, Focus Features and Red Interactive Agency. The game, a side-scrolling platformer, meshes well with the amazingly detailed world of The Boxtrolls in the movie. It is a vibrant world, even though the color palette is minimal. The game is appealing and challenging.
A sequel to the popular game Thief Lupin, which was downloaded over six million times, has quietly crept into the Play Store between late last night and early morning. Bluewind, the creator of Thief Lupin 2: The Legendary Treasure, has been developing mobile games since 2005. The game is a compilation of multiple genres, in that it includes puzzle elements, platforming and is in some aspects, a type of endless runner. Somehow, Bluewind makes it all work. Thief Lupin 2: The Legendary Treasure, is ready for you to explore multiple levels and scour the globe, by becoming a master thief.
If you ever caught it in the arcades or on the Dreamcast the name Crazy Taxi should hold at least a somewhat special place in your heart. As a game built on adrenaline, a pretty solid and appropriate soundtrack, and an absolutely ridiculous implementation of physics, Crazy Taxi was probably the title I spent the most hours with on my Dreamcast in the day. Its classic arcade sensibilities pitting you against the clock and unpredictable challenges made it easy to get sucked in by, but very difficult to really master in any consistent way.
A new FPS has hit Google Play today called Kill Shot from Hothead Games. This is the company’s first FPS title and it focuses a lot on being a sniper more than anything else. However you do get to get up close and personal with a shotgun and a Negev looking type of gun and other less long range weaponry.
Retro Wings: Flappy Plane Aces is a game from 8-Bit Gamestudio out of Bangkok, Thailand, and developer Arkavis. 8-Bit Gamestudio continues with their latest release Retro Wings, which follows Retry Bird and Retry Run, which are already available in the Play Store. As you may have guessed, this game is in the same genre as Flappy Bird. It is difficult and full of beautiful pixels, but does not feel punishing, because of the excellent game controls. If you enjoy challenging games, then take flight with Retro Wings to see how far you can get.
