It is July 15th, 2015 and that really didn’t mean much up until this year, unless of course that is your birthday. However this year, and possibly future years as well, July 15th is Amazon Prime Day which is Amazon’s big sale day for Prime members. This is the first year for Prime Day and Amazon is touting more deals than Black Friday and so far that is appearing to be quite true. Not only is there a lot of deals, most of them are actually pretty good.

The big day is almost upon us and even though it is the middle of the Summer, it almost really does feel like Black Friday in a lot of ways. The anticipation of possibly scoring a couple of awesome deals tomorrow, but having to wait a whole day to really check out everything, is a lot like Black Friday. However, when Amazon’s Prime Day starts tomorrow, Amazon will be pumping out more deals than we would see on the actual Black Friday.
Gameflip is a mobile marketplace that has just launched which allows gamers to buy and sell games, whether new or used, as well as collectibles and gaming accessories. Pretty much every console has their own section for buying and selling games, ranging from Xbox One and Playstation 4 to old school GameCube titles.
Amazon has announced the first official Amazon Prime Day, which will be next week on July 15th, 2015. The company is literally trying to take out Black Friday in terms of just the sheer amount of savings that will be available on that day. In other words it will literally be like Christmas in July… as the saying goes. This means that if you’re in the market for a new Shield brand device, a new Android phone or tablet, this would be the day to to it if they go on sale, which is more than likely to happen.
GPD is coming with a clam shell style Android gaming device with full hardware buttons reminiscent of the Nintendo 3DS xl console. Judging by the buttons it seems be aimed at emulators as it looks like a mash-up of a whole bunch of console controllers.
Originally announced back during CES 2015, Snail Games unveiled two gaming focused Android devices during that show, the OBox Android game console and the W3D Android gaming phone. We went hands-on with both of those and found that both were quite good for gaming. Today it appears the wait is finally over as Snail Games has announced that pre-orders are now available for the W3D.
Nod Labs made headlines recently when the company secured $13.5 million in funding in order to continue developing, manufacturing, and eventually selling their Backspin controller. The reason for the interest in this peripheral is due to it not only being for VR headsets, mainly the Oculus Rift but any will work, but also due to its size, making it very portable, and so it can be used with Android devices.
If appears that Razer is looking to bolster the sales of their Android set-top box / micro-console called the Forge TV as it has now appeared on Google’s Store for devices. We got to go hands-on with this set-top box back during GDC this year and with the short amount of time we had with it, it was a decent little box to play with.
So far we have had some decent support regarding Virtual Reality and Android devices announced. Initially Oculus Rift announced Android support before Facebook bought them out, that hasn’t changed as far as we know. HTC and Valve are working on the HTC Re Vive VR headset which no doubt will get Android support if it doesn’t have it already. Now Razer has announced that their open Virtual Reality platform, called OSVR, will come with compatibility for Android devices.
When Apple finally opened up iOS enough for peripheral manufacturers to make controllers and other devices for the iPhone and iPad, SteelSeries was one of the first companies to announces and release a new controller for iOS gamers to finally get to use. Called the Stratus XL, this controller went on to get a lot of great reviews, being one of the best controllers for iOS. Not like they have a lot of them mind you. Android, on the other hand, has plenty of controllers designed specifically for Android devices including ones from SteelSeries, which we actually have used on a fairly regular basis and reported on back during CES 2013.
