Temple Run has evolved once again. This time instead of being an endless runner for your Android phone or tablet, or an endless runner themed after a Disney movie, this new evolution of Temple Run brings the game into the world of virtual reality.

One game that has always been fun to play is the endless runner called Canabalt where you run across roofs of buildings for as long as possible without dying. Djinnworks has released their own idea of a rooftop running game called Stickman Roof Runner.
There have been a lot, and that is putting it lightly, endless runners, since the success of Temple Run. It has been a long time, since I have played an endless runner that is so close in style to Temple Run, without yawning and thinking, this is more of the same. Headup Games, out of Cologne, Germany, teamed up with Level Bit, has just changed my mind again about the endless runner genre. Though the mechanics are exactly the same as other endless runners, Ms. Kong, their latest game, appears to have refreshed the genre. Welcome to the jungle!
Nitrome has made a follow-up to their popular title 8-Bit Doves. In the same glorious, and almost monochromatic fashion, they have released Endless Doves into the Play Store. Yes, let all the Flappy Bird comparisons begin. In this case, I don’t think they are really warranted. The quality of this extraordinarily difficult game is unmatched in its control, atmosphere and personality. It is a straightforward game, that is as challenging as Wave, Wave to play, by Noodlecake Games. However, accepting failure with this title, is much easier, because of the delightful touches the designers have placed in the game. Endless Doves should be downloaded for the attention to detail alone. The graphics are a throwback to the early days of Nintendo Gameboys.
Alex Andreadis of Over Easy Games, which is based in Melbourne, Australia, has a new game that was recently released for Android. Any fan of Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock in the early 90’s will recognize the theme behind this one. The name of the game is Bomb on Bus. It is a new endless runner that will have you causing mayhem in the midst of the streets, as you navigate your bus at top speeds, so that the bomb on the bus won’t detonate. Oh, and the name of that film starring Reeves and Bullock… was Speed. Though Over Easy Games in tongue-and-cheek deny the similarities, it is still a fun game in its own right.
Just because the week is over doesn’t mean there aren’t great games to be discovered. If you are in a rush and only have a few moments to get some gaming in this weekend, you should try a game called Box Wars. RM Apps is a game studio based in Germany, created by Jorg Reuss and Alex Mircer. They have a couple of apps in the Play Store, such as Belly Bird 3D, Good Night Sheep and the recently released, Box Invaders. There isn’t too much information to be found out about the studio at this time. Even their website says coming soon. So what do we know? We know that Box Invaders is a pretty good game, if you want to challenge yourself. The controls are fluid and the graphics are impressive. Though the sound in the game is sparse, it somehow fits well within the scope of the game. Box Invaders is an endless (walker) runner with a twist.
A new endless runner style of game has arrived onto Android called Jet Run: City Defender. Developed by Wicked Witch Software, this game puts players inside the cockpit of a rather cool futuristic looking fighter jet that you will be flying throughout a city landscape as you defend it against invading enemies.
EM Studios (Extra Mile), based in Glasgow, Scotland, has just released their first game on iOS. They have worked for many years in the game industry, and it shows with their first title, Shred It! It is a gorgeous, paper-craft created, snowboarding, endless runner. You will be able to hit the slopes with five different adorable characters, in what is sure to be fun for the whole family. The good news is, EM Studios has told us, the Android version is only a couple weeks away.
If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then Dong Nguyen of .GEARS Studios must be feeling awfully delighted. Rovio, the studio behind the smash-hit Angry Birds franchise, has released a new game called Retry, which bears a number of similarities to Nguyen’s uber-popular Flappy Bird.
There are numerous endless runner type of games on mobile right now and a lot of them tend to be very similar to one another. Thankfully some of them actually try to be as different as possible even though they are in an over-saturated genre of gaming. Octagon is a little different than the typical endless runner though.
