Valve apparently laying off several employees affecting hardware and Android development

Information is beginning to surface today over possible layoffs at Valve who are the developers of the Half-Life franchise and Steam. Details right now are pretty scarce as to what is going on and regarding the number of employees let go as of Tuesday morning. While the number of staff who have been laid off is currently unknown, some terms describing the situation being thrown around include “great cleansing” and “large decisions.”

PlayJam’s CMO talks about future GameStick updates, OUYA and retail backing

PlayJam’s GameStick is currently being developed, having undergone a redesign recently and plans to launch a month after OUYA ships out to backers of their Kickstarter campaign and a retail release in June 2013, and in an interview PlayJam’s chief marketing officer Anthony Johnson talks about OUYA as a competitor, retail backing and how GameStick may be updated with new hardware.

Qualcomm dismisses nVidia’s Project Shield, says they won’t build a competitor

Interesting news coming from Qualcomm today where Qualcomm’s Snapdragon boss Raj Talluri came out to basically say there is no real point to nVidia’s Project Shield and that it is basically useless. Following that statement Raj Talluri went on to say that Qualcomm won’t be building anything to compete with Project Shield either and that there is no real need for a dedicated Android device for games.

OUYA will follow how mobile is done with new hardware every year

For those of you who think the OUYA will be outdated the moment it arrive since Tegra 4 has been announced and devices that will have the Tegra 4 chipset are on the horizon, it looks like OUYA has a plan of their own to stay with the times. The CEO of OUYA, Julie Uhrman, was talking at the DICE summit yesterday where she revealed the company’s new deals with Double Fine and Verse Studios. She also revealed their plans for the OUYA hardware which will be following the same model as mobile phones and tablets do.

OUYA to be sold by retailers this Summer, new controller design appears

A couple of interesting tidbits of news regarding the upcoming Android-powered game console OUYA have come out this morning. It seems like things just keep getting better and better for this little console, first with plenty of content from developers both big and small being made for it, and now some major retail power has been signed on to sell units both online and at physical storefronts.

We’ve talked a lot about nVidia’s upcoming handheld gaming system Project Shield already which sports a Tegra 4 chipset and will be running the latest version of Android when it’s released. We’ve also mentioned there is a separate UI which is focused on gaming where you can play games you’ve purchased on Google Play, Tegra-optimized games from Tegra Zone or PC games streamed from your PC to your Project Shield unit.
