PAX East is underway and Harmonix is showing off their upcoming mobile game called Record Run. While mobile has a slew of endless running games already, it is still always good to see something a little bit different when it comes to games released in this genre. In the case of Record Run, this game is a combination of endless runner and a rhythm-based game.

Soul Fjord is a rare type of game. It’s ambitious, it possesses a strong, defining sense of style, place and time. It’s marriage of 1970’s Funk and Norse Mythology feels completely natural. It’s one of the rare instances of a game that attempts of a Tarantino-esque mash-up of style and genre, and under the leadership of Kim Swift, Soul Fjord pulls this off deftly.
Ouya has another exclusive game heading its way this month called Soul Fjord from Airtight Games. This is a rhythm-based roguelike game developed by Portal lead designer Kim Swift which puts players in control of Viking Magnus Jones who is out to save the world from Ragnarok using the almighty power of dance to do it.
Robtop Games has released their rhythm-based action game Geometry Dash onto Google Play and brings with it some seriously challenging gameplay. That is because this isn’t your typical rhythm-based game, Geomtery Dash actually requires skill on top of good timing.
Double Fine already has a couple of games slated for release onto Android as well as Ouya although they seem to still be in development right now and taking much longer than anticipated. However, they do have other titles already developed for other platforms and one such game is called Dropchord.
505 Studios has released a trailer for Snoop Dogg’s Way of the Dogg rhythm-based combat game showing off some of the gameplay and how it works. While the trailer is for the XBLA version of the game, just imagine that instead of using a controller for all the actions you will be doing in time to the music, you’ll be using touch screen swipes instead.
Another Triple-A developer that announced that they would be bringing a game to the Android-powered console Ouya has revealed what game that exactly will be. Portal creator Kim Swift from Airtight Games will be releasing Soul Fjord exclusively onto Ouya soon and now we have the first trailer for this funky new game.
For whatever particular reason today seems to be filled with a variety of Android game sales starting up. Monday’s are generally not the most popular day for developers to throw their games on sale but today seems to be the exception to that rule. Square Enix is jumping in on things and has put Demons’ Score THD on sale until April 25.
We get to talk about a lot of hybrid games, as we like to call them anyways, where developers take two or more of the traditional game genres and mesh them together to create something unique and different. Usually this turns out pretty decently and there is never an end to the surprise of genres developers are willing to blend together. Stereo Ride by ArtofBytes and Moarbile Games is one of those surprises that has somehow flown under the radar as it has been out for a little while now.
Back near the end of February we talked about a new rhythm-based game that the folks over at Crescent Moon Games were getting ready to publish called Zen Training. As you probably already know about Crescent Moon Games, they don’t publish anything unless it is a good quality game which usually is also pretty unique. Zen Training falls right into that category as it is a bit of a different type of rhythm-based game.
