Back in the beginning of January we wrote about the fact that Microsoft looks to be developing an Xbox Live companion app for Android. This came about thanks to a job posting looking for a software engineer with Android and iOS experience for an Xbox Live mobile application.
We mentioned at the beginning of this month that the Rift MMORPG from Trion Worlds would be getting a companion app which would land on both iOS and Android soon. For those of you who play the MMORPG, this was good news and now there is even more good news as the app is now available on the Android Market.
The question of the day is what do you get when you connect a Galaxy Nexus to a projector and integrate Kinect into the mix? Awesomeness of a massive geek level, that’s what. One innovative fellow going by the name of DDRBoxman has done exactly that to make a wall-size Android touchscreen running Ice Cream Sandwich.
Gameloft has been working on a new feature that will slowly start making its way into a lot of their games soon for Android. This feature is the ability to talk to other players on a particular game you happen to be playing at the time using voice chat over LTE networks.
We mentioned in our recap of the nVidia press conference that they quickly showed Skyrim being played on an Asus Transformer Prime through the use of the upcoming THD version of the Splashtop Remote Desktop application which will be available specifically for Tegra-based Android devices soon.
One would think that of all the companies to not make an app for Android that Microsoft would be one of them. However, we have to keep in mind that Microsoft has plenty of reasons to support Android considering they leech money off some manufacturers for every Android unit they sell. Keeping that in mind it looks like there may possibly be an Xbox Live companion app in the works.
A few days ago we talked about the rather awesome sounding Rift’s Mobile app that had launched on iOS and was being hinted at by Trion Worlds as coming to Android as well. Now it has been confirmed that, indeed, it will be coming to Android later this month in beta form.
Developers going by the name of IBF Programs have developed and released an Unofficial Steam app for Android users to toy around with. While this app does a fair amount, it obviously doesn’t do everything an official client would do. Still, it’s pretty slick and most Steam fans should enjoy this application.
We have covered a couple of interesting tidbits of information when it comes to Grand Theft Auto 3 on Android ranging from boosting your graphics quality to being able to install mods, new cars and building textures. However, if you don’t like fiddling with the files, there is a new app that will let you at least tweak the graphics easily.
