Never Alone has recently launched on the NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV and, once you’ve played this beautiful game for a few minutes, you will soon realize why it snapped up the 2015 BAFTA Award for Best Debut Game. Not only is this genuinely unique interactive entertainment of the finest sort, it is also a deeply enjoyable learning experience. Which is not something we often see or play.

Twin stick shooters – shoot-’em-ups that use one stick for directional movement and another for directional weapon firing – have been around for a lot longer than you might imagine. The current popularity of the genre was ignited by the release of Geometry Wars over a decade ago, first as a mini game hidden in Project Gotham Racing on Xbox and later as a standalone game in its own right. However, you need to go back 40 years to find the first ever example. It was an arcade game called Gunfight, featuring two cowboys intent on each other’s destruction. It was pretty basic stuff so you have to jump forward to 1984 and another coin-op cabinet called Robotron which, with a lone fighter up against hordes of encroaching robots, set the template for the games that were to come.

Q.U.B.E.’s life began as an experimental college project. Now, the Director’s Cut is reintroducing itself.
Earlier today Nvidia announced four new games for their Shield brand of Android devices, specifically the Shield Android TV. However, those weren’t the only games coming to Android TV as five other games have been updated recently to bring Android TV support to them, most within the last week.

Nvidia extends GRID’s free use period till July 31st. Red Faction Guerrilla is now available on Nvidia GRID
Yesterday Nvidia released another game onto their gaming-on-demand service called GRID as per usual, since this happens every Tuesday. This time around it is a new installment into the Red Faction franchise called Red Faction Guerrilla, which is 100% free to play in full on your Shield device of choice using GRID. One thing we have known for awhile is that GRID would not be free forever, and that Nvidia was planning to offer up a few different options for access to GRID, including a free service.
Following the success of their previous episodic adventures, Telltale Games hits a home run by securing the rights to apply their interactive storytelling talents to what is arguably the most popular fantasy franchise of all time (sorry Mr. Tolkien).

If appears that Razer is looking to bolster the sales of their Android set-top box / micro-console called the Forge TV as it has now appeared on Google’s Store for devices. We got to go hands-on with this set-top box back during GDC this year and with the short amount of time we had with it, it was a decent little box to play with.
