OUYA just made a Facebook post updating everyone on the status of the pre-orders for their upcoming Android-based game console. For those of you who have been on the fence about pre-ordering one, which would have you receiving one by April 2013, time is running out if you want to get in on the pre-order action.
Recently OUYA started a ‘game jam’ called CREATE which, in reality, is a bit more of a development competition more than an actual game jam. Regardless of how you want to look at it, OUYA has been offering up $45,000 in prizes across different categories for great games submitted by developers for the OUYA console.
It looks like OUYA really likes to listen to feedback from everyone regarding their upcoming Android-based console. One thing that is very important to good gaming is a good controller and it seems that after taking into account a lot of feedback that they have come up with a new design with multiple improvements.
Probably one of the biggest or most surprising announcements this CES was nVidia’s Project Shield which, if you missed the announcement, is their Android-based portable gaming system that not only runs Android games (THD or other) but also PC games streamed from your PC.
Last night during the nVidia press conference it was all about gaming except for perhaps 1% which focused on photos. One of their announcements which caught a lot of people off guard was that nVidia has been working on their own portable entertainment system (let’s be real though, it’s all about gaming) called Project Shield. This little package of awesome will sport a Tegra 4 chipset and pure Android, as in no crappy secondary UI layered over it.
Last week the OUYA developer units were sent out and the company decided to unbox one on video in order to give us all a bit of a quick rundown as to what these developer units look like and come with. Now one developer has gone to video with his full walkthrough of the developer units showing off pretty much everything.
Right now it seems that every other day the Android running home gaming console OUYA continues to gain strength in its cause and today is no different. Square Enix has announced that it will be releasing Final Fantasy III onto the system and becomes the first major game publisher to announce a game release for OUYA.
More news regarding OUYA and future content that will be available when this Android-based home gaming console launches next year. It seems more and more companies are coming out to throw their weight behind the unit by supporting it with content for when it launches. The newest company to come out is OnLive and on top of that we get a look at the actual OUYA game controller.
If you haven’t gotten sick of hearing about OUYA yet, there is good news for you! We have more information about the hardware design thanks to a Q&A session going on over at Kotaku. One of the biggest surprises so far to come out of the Q&A session is the fact that the OUYA unit itself will be roughly the size of a rubic’s cube, making it a rather compact console.
